His dehydration and injury was very likely the result of him missing OTA work during his contract hold out and not playing in any preseason games due to his hamstring. Last night was the first time he's gone all out in a long time and it caught up with him. He clearly wasn't in game shape.

And more...

Plus the missed OTA work along with no preseason games contributed to him not playing very well.

All of it. It all means something, in the end. Everything contributes one way, or another.

No he didn't. It has been shot down by the people who actually watched the practice.

I read in multiple places that he ran just one more play after the dunk and then left practice hurt and assumed he hurt it on the dunk and simply didn't want to the slightly embarrassing fact that he hurt himself fooling around.

Not a huge deal in my mind, guys are allowed to have fun.

I agree. He got his money and with it comes high expectations. I don't begrudge him getting hurt but I expect the best from dez that is what was paid for.

Agreed 100%
Your a professional athlete who has been doing this for a good portion of your life and you don't know to keep yourself hydrated? He should know better.

Dez wasn't "game ready" to get in game condition you have to play in games and he hadn't since last January.

I don't buy the idea that Dez wasn't "game ready".

I think he just got himself too jacked-up in the lead upt the game and ultimately that factored heavily in him having dehydration issues.

This has happened in opening games to Bryant before -- look back to the opener against the Jets a few years ago -- it was exactly the same deal:

Dez Bryant vanishes after dazzling start

For eight minutes Sunday night, Dez Bryant couldn't have been much more spectacular.

Then, for the other 52 minutes of the Dallas Cowboys' season opener, Bryant basically disappeared.

The combination of a bruised quadriceps, cramps and the NFL's best cornerback made the Cowboys' mega-talented young receiver all but invisible. His only memorable moments in the second half of the Cowboys' crushing, come-from-ahead 27-24 loss came when Bryant jogged to the locker room to get an IV and when he was the target of the pick that completed the Dallas' offense's fourth-quarter meltdown and set up the game-deciding field goal.

I noticed that when he was outside greeting other players coming in they ignored him and even acted like they dont like him.
On nfln irvin and deion implied he didnt stay in shape during offseason, and then missed TC and PS. so was really not ready to play
game one.
Deion kept saying this foot injury would lead to other problems, like his toe injury did.
After they thought they were off the air, I heard deion say thank god he got paid already, like he isnt expecting much out of dez in future.
Also if he was not in shape now, he cant do anything with the bad foot, so will be even worse shape in 6 weeks.

After this foot injury, I dont expect he will be ready in 6 weeks, but he will play , which could be a mistake.
I also have to question why he was the only one dehydrated.
He has no supervision now, he is on his own, that could be part of it.

Lots of conjecture in your post Dandy.

The 3 big money wr's of this off season
J. Jones 9 141 2 44

D. Thomas 7 60 0 11

D. Bryant 5 48 0 18
Julio is the only one that looks like he deserves the big money.
It is just one week but julio showed up ready to play and had a big night.

Hyrdration doesn't just occur during the game. It is a continuous process. A player should be hydrating daily.

Very true
And more so the day before the game
No way to keep up during the game
You have to start loading fluids days before and really loading the day before
Dez is out of shape and got no real work in training camp
And setting with screws in his foot isn't gonna help
I don't expect any serious contribution from dez till after thanksgiving

And one week makes a season? Julio went six straight games last year without a TD. He is great receiver, but let's not act like the others did not deserve to get paid. Injuries happen, even to those who go through the whole off season and preseason without one (see Leary and Gregory).

So it took two series to dehydrate him?

No, he spent three hours running all over the field before the game. That exhausted him and dehydrated him. He needs to be smarter.

Plus, he spends so much unnecessary energy on the sideline running around like a kid in a candy store. He needs to just calm down and save himself for the game.

This isn't the first time.

Practice and games are different. He missed a lot of OTA work then he missed some practices and all of preseason due to his hammy. The Cowboys were being real careful with him and Sunday night was the first time he's gone all out since last season. He gets very hyped up before games and does burn a lot of energy on the sidelines I'm sure that played a part in him becoming dehydrated.
