Well I've been one of Dez's biggest supporters but if he does this than I'm done with him. I don't care how great of a WR he is. We haven't won anything with him so far.

The trend will continue, and get worse without him.

I guess the T-Will fans will get what they want. They will see their main man in action as the lead WR for a few games. Then we will see how good he actually is.

Overall this **** sucks. I expected more from Dez, then again maybe it's not all his fault.

I still dont see the point of this. If a new deal isnt struck by the deadline he cant get a new one. Whats the point of sitting games? This is bad news for us if its true. I personally think its just posturing as they know the cowboys are getting ready to offer something before the deadline.

They are tying to get the fans worked up right now before the deadline for a new contract. They think the fan reaction will put pressure on the team to overpay.

They would not need to announce it to the media if they just wanted to tell the team he might hold out.

It makes sense to make the threats; however, it does NOT make sense to actually follow through with the threats. There is zero benefit to Dez to actually hold out.

Ok. It hurts Dez, hurts the team, hurts his long-term prospects of a deal, and doesn't earn him an extra dime. In fact, it costs him multiple game checks. Plus it's completely unbelievable.

This is maybe the stupidest threat I've seen in the leadup to a contract negotiation. So much so that it seems like a publicity stunt to make it look like his agent's pulling out all the stops. And the team is just going to take the high road. Silly.

Holding out during the regular season would make no sense if a new contract isn't reached by the deadline nothing can be done until after the season he'll be losing money.

Saying we an win without him is a joke. Garrets system is about beating the other guy physically. Without double coverage on dez, im sorry, our current WR wont be beaint anyone physically

So he could miss games and pass up on large $$$$. In the hope he does not piss off the fans so they don't like him anymore....

Haha, yeah. The only problem is, this might actually be having the reverse effect for Dez's camp.

with losing demarco murry and if dez Bryant holds out you can pretty much say 8 and8 or worse I was feeling pretty good about this team not so much now. because I am sure hardy will miss at least 6 to 10 games, so yes the cowboys have problems

Agreed.

If this does happen, then the season looks like a wash.

Cowboys hand out bad contract after bad contract to certified bums. The 1 time we have a legit superstar, they decide it's time to change their ways.

Dez is no saint either in all this.

I have a hard time believing this team can win without Murray and Dez. Have the other WR's shown that they can step up and carry the team?

You guys are panicking which is exactly the reaction that these threats are intended to cause.

His agents want the team to feel pressure when the fans over-react and panic.

Dez pouting like a little child, just like AP did with the vikings, he has no leverage, he's not sitting out any games, he'll be playing game one because he doesn't want to lose his game paycheck...so this is all a smoke screen!

This would cost Dez $800,000 per game.

Bullsh.

Then, what if they beat the Giants without him? Dez would have a conniption.

What do you expect from the group we have on this board? Many of them said when Romo was out vs AZ last season that the Cowboys would be fine and could win with Weeden. The Cowboys aren't winning much of anything without Murray AND Dez.

Negotiation situations like this have to be handled in a similar way to dealing with terrorists - and that is no deals. It only creates more headaches in the future with every hot head holding out for a bigger slice of pie. If Dez actually skips games you just treat the same way as if he was injured and next man up. I'm not so tied up in what happens in the 2015 season that I want to reduce operating room in the future to placate threats. Long term view. Low Time Preference. Planning. This GOTTA WIN IT ALL TOMORROW stuff is how we suffered through the '00s to begin with.

I think it would be a waste of time, Dez either agrees to a long term deal by July 15th or he will be placed on the tag for 2015 season.

It does get the fans to over-react, just look a this thread and others; however, I don't think the team will be bothered by the fan reaction at this point in time. I guess it is possible, because they are selling seats now, but I don't think Jerry is having any problems selling seats these days.

i don't see the point in believing everything that is said between now and contract signing. again, what do you expect them to say? if this was going to be easy it would have been done by now.

maybe a "dez contract talks" thread so people don't have to create a new thread every time someone "hears" another ploy along the way. dunno.
