I still dont see the point of this. If a new deal isnt struck by the deadline he cant get a new one. Whats the point of sitting games? This is bad news for us if its true. I personally think its just posturing as they know the cowboys are getting ready to offer something before the deadline.

Big emphasis on " may" when it gets to " will" then I'll think its really serious enough to be concerned about.

There is leverage on both sides technically so I totally understand the stance of Condon and Dez. I'll explain below...

Dez can holdout and it not cost him a thing actually. Once a player signs the franchise tag tender, the one year salary becomes fully guaranteed. Dez will have until game 10 to sign to receive every dime of the $13mil.

However, the Boys have recourse of two different kinds. First, they can withdraw the tag completely at any time prior to the player signing, making Dez an unrestricted free agent at a time when most teams cannot pay him big money. Second, there is an exception to the fully guaranteed tender once signed, Article 10 Section 2(c) of the CBA states that the contract can be terminated if the player fails to "establish or maintain his excellent physical condition." Any effort by the Boys to do this however, would result in a review of the situation by a neutral physician and eventually and inevitably...arbitration. The Cowboys will definitely not have either option available to them since they clearly know Dez will make much more than $13mil on the open market and Dez is in ridiculous physical condition.

I just hope the two sides get a deal done in the next month that is fair to both sides.

None of the other receivers command safety help over the top. You take Dez away from this offense, and teams disregard the passing game and stack the line. They already know they'll need extra men to stop this offensive line from springing one of the Average Joe runners. Take Dez away, and it's run blitz or open season on Tony Romo.

I'm not saying the Cowboys should cave into Dez's demands, but I'd hate to see this offense without Dez because he brings as much to the table as Murray did, and even more so, IMO.

I think another part of the issue is that the agent wants to make the player feel like they are doing everything possible to get the contract done. Headlines and threats to hold out probably make Dez feel important.

I don't begrudge any player trying to get his money. It's his body, his career.
Having said that, I simply can't get worried about stuff like this. It's part of the game. The only people who are going to look out for your best interest are you.
If Dez gets hurt in the service of the Dallas Cowboys, they're not going to continue to pay him the fullness of his contract. So he has to do what he has to do to protect himself or make as much as he can. And I aint gonna hate on him for that.

He's already made more money off his rookie contract than most will make in an entire lifetime. That's why I do not pity any athlete that's getting paid handsomely to play a game for six months out of the year.
