I still dont see the point of this. If a new deal isnt struck by the deadline he cant get a new one. Whats the point of sitting games? This is bad news for us if its true. I personally think its just posturing as they know the cowboys are getting ready to offer something before the deadline.
His stance is he's willing to lose 750 - 800k per game until a deal is worked out. Guess he feels he'll make it up once the long-term deal is signed. The sad thing is he's losing a lot of support from his fan base by threatening a hold out.
I understand that it's a big contract year for him and these opportunities only come around 2 or 3 times in a players career, but posturing such as this is very detrimental not only to himself but to the team. He's going to be a very rich man one way or the other. The question really boils down to where he stands salary-wise amongst the other top receivers in the league and how much is enough for his ego.
Recently being rated the top receiver in the league certainly doesn't bode well for the FO. Funny how that happened all of a sudden, isn't it? I can't help but feel that he would still be rated behind CJ if a deal was already in place, but that's just me.
As much as I hate to say it, if I were part of the Cowboys FO, I would stand firm. No one player is ever greater than the team. Paying him 17M a season could be have far-reaching, long-term effects on the team. If he holds out a substantial amount of time, I'd seriously consider shopping him for nothing less than a 1st and a 2nd. It pains me to say it, but if he stands true to this threat he's placing himself above the team which will only cause internal problems which we can't afford.
In my heart, I feel they'll find some middle ground on all of this. I just wish that Dez would have handled it differently. You can forgive, but you don't forget.
