There is no way JJones would trade Dez after this season. Romo still only has 2 years left and he needs weapons.

Franchising would have only hurt the cap this year and next. Dez' contract saved the team 5.7m, which it about equal to the amount that will be rolled over to 2016. That will lower his effective cap hit from 13m to 7.3m

I didn't say he would trade him after this season he invested too much guaranteed money in him to trade him. I said had he forced Dez to play under the franchise tag he might have considered trading him after the miserable season he's had and with the uncertainly that he'll return to form after this injury. Who knows what damage was done to his foot playing on it as long as he did. It was obvious by his play he wasn't right. Resigning Dez may hurt the team a lot worse if he can't get back to a high level or this injury becomes chronic forcing the team to have to move on from him in a couple of years.

You know football is just as much mental as physical, correct?

If he is mentally not trusting himself because he is playing injured, that could have an impact on every aspect of his play. I am down on Dez this year as well and have voiced my displeasure with some of his effort on this forum but I can see how everything will be related.

I pay you 14 million I expect you to catch balls that hit you in between the numbers. I can see missing some of the tougher catches, or not jumping as high or whatever, but if you turn around and the ball is spot on, I expect you to catch it. I don't care whatelse you have going on in your life. I am paying you to catch the ball. Period.

I am not down on Dez. I think he is a great player and I look forward to him being a big part of our team for years to come. But in no way am I giving him a pass for some of the drops he had this year cuz his foot was hurt.

I know what you are saying, "if" he played under the tag last year.

JJones would have to tag him again at 15.3m just for the chance to trade him. And Dez would have to sign the tender and then agree to a trade and a new deal.

Signing the 5 year deal was by far the best outcome for both sides. DAL got salary cap relief and 2 years below cost in 2018-19. Dez got 32m guaranteed, with a great chance to earn the full 70m with DAL.

Hope his recovery goes better than Hakeem Nicks' did a few years back...

Is something in the water at VR to cause all these players to be on IR. The Cowboys can't get away from there fast enough.

Dez was injured in the opener and the trade deadline was Nov 3 so he could have been traded before then. Granted it would have been difficult trading him with an injury but some team might have seen it as an opportunity and pulled the trigger. The team was already in a deep hole by then at 2-5 and could have cashed him in like they did with Walker several games into the 89 season. Right now the Cowboys are stuck for 32M and will be stuck for another 13M the first day of the 2016 league year. This will end up being a bad contract if Dez can't return to form. Jerry has already been screwed the first year of it.

Dez and Romo both risked their bodies to rush back early to try and save the season. Too bad they got no help from the morons running the team and their underachieving teammates, and so it turned out they just put off their healing and preparation for next season.

Kudos to those two warriors and speedy recovery.

Romo and Dez should have never been rushed back. It's critical that the team develop a back up QB and draft someone to replace Terrance Williams. Our WR group isn't good enough.

I knew he came back to early. ESPN was right 12 weeks is the normal and with a chance of refracture. Everyone heralded his " healing" ability like he was wolverine or something. I hope this doesnt impact his offseason training and conditioning.

Who did that exactly? I remember a lot of speculation about how it would be weird if they let him back if there was risk of reinjury but thats all.

Who would trade for a WR on a one year max deal with a broken foot?

Maybe now people will realize he was playing hurt all season and rushed back to try and help this team. I'm sure the dez bashers on here will attribute this to his bad attitude and his monkey.

What amazes me is the lack of reaction from the media not questioning the multiple injuries to both Dez and Romo.

When RGIII was rushed back too soon and he reinjured his knee..

the entire NFL came down on the Skins for possibly ending RGIIIs career.

HC lost his job..heads rolled.

We do the same thing to 2 players..the most valuable 2 on the team..

and the Cowboys FO gets a free pass.

Don't understand it.

Why isn't the media raising any questions about these decisions.?

I don't care if both wanted to play and agreed to do it.

Garrett should have stepped in and shut it down.

Didn't do it and now we pay the price probably next year, too.

Anybody else find this all weird?

Cool. Very limited two offseasons in a row. I smell super bowl! With his AND Romo's surgery, looked like that window SLAMMED shut for Romo and Witt.

Long term investment vs. short term gain (?). Risk reward. Jerry took the risk to put Dez back out there knowing the long term ramifications on Dez's career and potentially the team. Info on the Jones fracture is well known. He should have to deal with the gains and losses. He didn't get screwed.

No. There were a lot of posters criticizing ESPN and other insiders who said Dez would be out that long. And when he came back earlier, there were a lot of voices proclaiming the mediots don't know what they're talking about once again.

I said it would have been tough trading him with an injury but it wasn't a season ender and the trade deadline was nearing the time he was set to return so some team might have pulled the trigger. A lot easier trading a receiver on a one year deal than to trade them after just paying them 32M and having to eat it.
