Before the corny comments ensue, I'd like to remind people this is a BUSINESS. Just because you'd take $13 million in a heartbeat doesn't mean Dez should. He has every right to maximize his value and financial security for his family.

He can't make ends meet on 13 million a year?

Thats not at all what hes saying. To me it seems like 13 mil a year is fine with him, the guaranteed money is the issue. Thats his "security". If hes willing to take 13 a year, id give him 35-40 guaranteed. Wouldnt have any issue with it either.

Thing is 13 mill is just a number what players want is guaranteed money, no matter what, they know that is coming to them and that is security.

He's right. He plays like an elite wideout he should be paid as such. He puts is body on the line wk in and out while the owners sot back and rack in more than he can ever imagin. What's wrong with him getting a piece of the pie? He's a player we cannot afford to los.

I think he means playing for the franchise # this year is cool but he wants the security of a long term deal. I don't think he means he'd take a long term deal for $13 million a year.

That's what I got out of it too.

People look at 13m and say why is he complaining?

But what if your talent was worth 40m at the sign of a pen but you were only getting 13m? I'm sure you'd be miffed.

Or how about if your colleagues who are worse than you are were making 100k a year but your employer was giving you 33k. You wouldn't complain because there are some people on food stamps?

Stop it.

5 years at $13mil/yr with $35-40mil guaranteed I think is a win win. I can't see this as the case tho, considering the Jones' earlier comment on the gap being so big at the moment

I have no problem with Dez (or any other athlete) going for as much money as possible, but it's not like the team is asking him to play for the league minimum. $13 mil guaranteed for one season ought to be enough to set anyone up for the rest of their life.

Maximizing your value and "financial security" are two completely different issues at hand.

Maximizing your value is fine, and expected.

Using the "financially secure" line when being offered 13 million dollars, when most Americans don't even make 6 figures, makes you look like a complete butthole.
