He's not the consensus #1. A lot of advanced stats have him ranked lower actually. I know PFF has him ranked 6th. I think they have Revis, Haden, Peterson, Grimes, and Verner ahead of him.

His loud mouth inflates his value compared to other corners.

He's ranked behind DRC, Mathieu, Vontae Davis, Grimes and Revis, but all of those guys OPP qb rating are 20+ points higher than Sherman's.

Even by PFF's admission, Sherman was the best cover corner in the league this year, and second best to Shields last year.

Watching the tape, it's evident to me that Sherman has been in a league of his own the last couple of years.

IMO Revis is the only guy that contests, but Revis hasn't been the same guy since his injury, and Sherman is clearly having better years the last two seasons.

Richard Sherman has caught more passes in the playoffs than Dez.

He loses his composure every-other week and that's playing against guys who aren't looking to mess with him. And he'd be playing against the king of that.

this
Dez is talented but a hot head who loses his composure
He would get owned against Sherman

It's an interesting match up.

I could honestly see it going either way. Right now I'd give the advantage to Sherman who I do absolutely believe is the best Corner in football right now.

I'd enjoy watching that match up for sure.

Our last game, in the end zone. He catches that and we win that game.

Against the Eagles? The 2 pt conversion to tie the game?

That pass was thrown low, so going up and getting it wasn't really an option.

He probably should have been able to reel that one in, but it was a tougher catch than it looked. Cary Williams was draped all over Dez and the linebacker underneath kind of screened the pass (since it was low). I think Dez saw it late and just missed the play.

If it was thrown higher, I think he would've had a much better chance.

Dez can do this all day:

No not that one. The would-be touchdown one.

Sherman is playing very physical and confident. I would tip my balance towards Richard.

He would neutralize Dez.

Dez would fare much better than Crabtree...I think that much can be deduced from the contrast in their style of play. Dez MUCH more physical WR, while Crab relies on finess more. I think this is why I would take Dez head to head against Sherman. Make no mistake, Sherman is pretty dang good, but he'll lose the physical part. However, like alot of folks on here have said, it will likely weigh more on gameplan and QB rather than anything Dez could add. The plan has to be to get Dez the ball, and then you have to have a QB who throws at 88 instead of another jersey (especially a different colored jersey).

Oh yeah, he mistimed that jump against Boykin. Good point.

I mean, it wouldn't have won the game since it was 3rd quarter and that only would've tied the game at 17.

Take away Seattle's pass rush, then see how good he really is. Probably still good, but that is a factor.
With the team in tact as of now, and when we play them next year. Then it will be a great match up.
Michael Irvin beat Deion Sanders quite often so you never know until we see it, and one game either way doesn't mean a lot.

The corner position is so overrated. If you're front seven can create enough pressure, you'll make any corner look like Sherman. I don't believe in a shutdown corner.

Don't get me wrong, Sherman's good but I wouldn't trade a talent like Dez for a corner. No way.

There are oodles and oodles of "good" WRs in the NFL. The delta between good WRs and great WRs just isn't that great if measured by on the field impact.

IMHO, there are very very few great corners in the league and the different between good corners and great corners is significant.

I am not advocating Dez, however, Dez is not as good of a WR as Sherman is a CB. I think there are many who would make that trade.

Their pass rush really wasn't all that great last year, and Sherman arguably had about the same year last year. In fact, we had 36 total sacks last year to Seattle's 33. And even this year they were tied for 10th in sacks with MIN, ATL, and OAK.

Sacks aren't everything, but Seattle isn't some completely dominant pass rush.

They are a perfect example of all of the defense platoons working together in concert.

In Seattle's case they have a outstanding secondary -- probably the tops in the NFL. That allows their somewhat average front-4 more time to pass rush since QBs are forced to hold the ball longer.

I misread the thread title at first then edited my post, I thought they were talking about trading Dez for Sherman, but still, I wouldn't make that trade. Corners are a dime a dozen. Find one who has some coverage skills and we're set. I'd build up that front seven first. JMO.,
