I'm sure Niners are looking for a backup somewhere......Purdy looked pretty good but then defenses catch up

Do you think the Cowboys can win the SB with Rush? No they can’t and the 49ers cannot either with their backup QB.

Yet so many on this site contend to this day that a rookie was the best choice for the playoffs in 2016. With a defense nowhere near as good as the 9ers.

Jimmy ain't as bad as y'all think. When given a clean pocket he reads the field well and delivers! Pressure him and that's when you see the picks. He was asked to do way more than check down or make easy passes. I think Purdy will get exposed big time and defenses will play closer to the LOS to stop run. They'll step down a notch as far as in the rankings!

After garropillo was lost for the season?
no, I think they can survive much like we did with Rush, they have great a Playcaller who utilizes all those offensive weapons to pt they allow a top defense to keeping them in low scoring games.. wasn't that how we went 4-1? they should not be dropped out. they still can be dangerous, just not as dangerous.

Maybe true about the SB but writing them off as being able to at least get to and maybe win a playoff game, that would be underestimating their HC and all those offensive weapons with a great defense in weak division.

Teams have won Super Bowls with backup QBs. Washington won with Doug Williams, the Giants, won with Jeff Hostetler and Philly won with Nick Foles. San Francisco has a great defense and their backup QB played pretty well last week. Although a few teams have won Super Bowls with backup QBs, it’s very difficult to do.

The 9er’s are a very good team. But they’re not going to the Super Bowl with Brock Purdy under center. It just isn’t going to happen. I don’t care how good your running game and defense are, you’ve still got to have decent QB play. Brock Purdy? I don’t think so.

Yeah but those were backups with some experience and were pretty good in their own rite. Brock Purdy? Did anyone on this board even know who he was before Sunday?

Anyone watch that game? Backup QB kid has 'Romo-energy.'
for one game with a team unprepared for him. we saw each game for Rush get worse and worse one teams adjusted to him.. rush came out played great for 2-3 games but that didn't last long as the opponents got better and knew what to do to effect him.

time will tell.

Yes I did know who he was. I saw him play at Iowa st. 9ers did not ask much out of Jimmy G they will not ask much out of Purdy.

No, they are still a contender but it hurts them for sure. Shanahan is a great play caller and designer, so it was never about great QB play. Just get the ball in the hands of their playmakers, which they have a ton. That and rely on their top ranked defense. They'll be hard to beat still, just not as formidable.

The bottom line is you don’t lose your first and second string QBs and it not have a big impact on your team, especially this late in the season. Purdy is a rookie and was the very last player taken in the draft. I just don’t see him guiding the 9er’s to a playoff run. They’ll be in the playoffs because their division sucks and because the rest of the team is very good, but I don’t see them advancing. Maybe he proves me wrong. We’ll see.
