As you know i listen to several shows about the cowboys. On KRLD 105.3 the flag ship station now; with salisbury and some guy;
http://www.1053thefan.com/SHOWS---Sean-Salisbury---Newy-Scruggs/3784770

sean salisbury was popping off and said something like the cowboys didnt deserve Americas Team title, but possibly the steelers or the patriots. Salisbury went on to say that the steelers were offered the title of americas team, but that the steelers turned it down; but he didnt say when.

i thought some of you would want to know. I know i was ticked off. I gave you the link to the show and here is the phone number, i couldnt find a toll free number though.

I never did like salisbury anyway, but thought some of you loyal dallas cowboys fans would want to know, the show starts noon to 3 pm best i remember.

Google "America's Team."

The results don't lie.

A whole lot of fans say the nickname is offensive, and then will turn right around and tell you why another team (usually theirs) deserves it. How is it offensive if someone deserves it?

They never try and adopt other nicknames except a couple of years ago they wanted to see who was the real "Titletown, USA." It's Green Bay. It is always going to be Green Bay. The Cowboys could win the next 20 Super Bowls and it would still belong to Green Bay.

Nicknames are not transferable and they are not transient. Even in 1989 when we were 1-15 the press was calling us America's Team.

Bob Ryan of NFL Films chose the nickname for the 1979 Cowboys Highlight film. Not anyone with the Cowboys. The name stuck.

As far as I'm concerned, unless Jerry Jones offers the title to another team, it stays where it is.

Thusly, it shall stay where it is. Sean Salisbury is a joke anyway...he killed Eli Manning all year that year the Giants won the Super Bowl and then after the game was swinging from Eli's scrota.

According to Dan Rooney, who took over as owner from his father and has passed the chief executive's role to his son Art Rooney II, NFL Films once wanted to name the Steelers "America's Team." But Rooney replied: "No, we're just Pittsburgh's team."

Not sure whether it's true or not.

Saw a 6 Super Bowl Victory License plate on a car yesterday, was very painful especially knowing that with a normal coach we had a good chance to get one ourselves in 2007 and frittered away that hard fought game against them last year.

Really? We lost to the Giants in '07 because of Wade? That's an interesting take.

The guy who came up with the term "America's Team" (Bob Ryan of NFL Films) has never said anything about offering it to the Steelers.

What's it going to be then, eh?

2006 - The Saints were "America's Team" because of Katrina.
2007 - The Packers, those fellows from the heartland, had it in the bag until they blew it by losing to the Giants.
2008 - The Steelers got offered it because they are a bunch of tough hard-working blue collar people or something.

Who. Cares.

Um, who cares?

I gotta admit, the whole "we are America's Team, not them!" debate is really pathetic to me.

It comes up as a topic here every couple of weeks, all year round.

I'm sure to get flamed for this but really, it's kinda stupid.

It's just a nickname. It doesn't carry any status or priviledges. The Cowboys are and have been "America's Team" and it will always be that way because it originated with them and that's that.

But in the end, who cares? The debate always comes across to me like some bratty kid whining "I wanna be 'Luke Skywalker' this time" or something.

Titles are earned, not bought.

Yeah, our Cowboys are still called America's Team.

I've been a fan for about 20 years...so not my whole life like many of you. So as a way previous life outsider, I can tell that I didn't and really still don't like any team in any sport to proclaim themselves America's Team. 1st team to do it while they are dominant...and it sticks. All you ever have to do is put the shoe on the other foot. Same with Notre Dame being on TV every week even when they suck...it can be irritating to the outsider. Great move by the 'Boys and of course I'm a die-hard Texan man and Cowboyfan now (so I roll with it all just fine) as will probably be my kids (and maybe their kids).

If there were any truth to that, we would have heard about it long ago.

thats not what salisbury was crowing about, he said only a team this is winning and has championships like now, say for example the steelers or patriots should have that title

Offered by whom? NFL Films? Certainly not the Cowboys, who seem to have a say in how the moniker is marketed.

i understand that but salisbury was crowing that the steelers should have that title, really burned me up because he was saying cowboys shouldnt have that title now;

what really bugged me was that salisbury whom i have never liked to begin with, was on a dallas cowboys flagship station and what crowing how great the steelers and patriots were, but not the cowboys, for not winning a playoff game since you knowwhen;
