salisbury and scruggs have listeners?

and the patriots really?

Was that meant as a joke? Has anyone ever listened to parcells talk about the patriots before he showed up? That franchise was a joke, their facilities were the equivalent of a NY penn league baseball team.

What's it going to be then, eh?

The Patriots got mentioning for the tag when they were playing the Rams in the Super Bowl, the whole patriotism/9-11 thing. I don't see where their facilities pre-Bill Parcells were even a factor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America's_Team

Steelers owner Art Rooney dismissed the suggestion that the Steelers were "America's Team". "'We didn't want that,' Rooney said. 'We're Pittsburgh's team. We feel strongly about that

Bob Ryan, the Vice President and editor-in-chief of NFL Films, coined this for the Cowboys in 1979. After preparing and editing the team’s 1978 season highlight film he had to come up with a title for the film. [6] He was quoted as saying:
I wanted to come up with a different twist on their team highlight film. I noticed then, and had noticed earlier, that wherever the Cowboys played, you saw people in the stands with Cowboys jerseys and hats and pennants. Plus, they were always the national game on television.

During the Cowboys' first game of the 1979 season, a nationally televised game against the St. Louis Cardinals (which Dallas won 22-21), the television announcer for CBS introduced the Cowboys as America’s Team and the name stuck.
Dallas's Hall of Fame coach Tom Landry originally did not approve of the appellation of America's Team. He felt that it would give opposing teams extra incentive to play harder. Eventually he gave in and actually came to like the name.[7]

and who cares ???????????????

sean salisbury was popping off and said something like the cowboys didnt deserve Americas Team title, but possibly the steelers or the patriots. Salisbury went on to say that the steelers were offered the title of americas team, but that the steelers turned it down; but he didnt say when.

i thought some of you would want to know. I know i was ticked off. I gave you the link to the show and here is the phone number, i couldnt find a toll free number though.

"offered"? what does that mean? This is one of the dumbest things Ive ever heard. It doesnt make any sense.

Um, who cares?

I gotta admit, the whole "we are America's Team, not them!" debate is really pathetic to me.

It comes up as a topic here every couple of weeks, all year round.

I'm sure to get flamed for this but really, it's kinda stupid.

It's just a nickname. It doesn't carry any status or priviledges. The Cowboys are and have been "America's Team" and it will always be that way because it originated with them and that's that.

But in the end, who cares? The debate always comes across to me like some bratty kid whining "I wanna be 'Luke Skywalker' this time" or something.

Well put, .. I agree.

I would trade any stupid "nickname" for another Lombardi trophy, .. the only thing that matters anyway.

CFL Grey Cup winner - whining about who should be America's team - stay in Canada, idiot!

Sean has how many Super Bowl rings - zero? Playoff wins - zero, winning seasons (9-7 splitting time with an aged Jim Mcmahon)- one. He moved in the NFL like a nomad.

He threw a career stat of 19 TD and 19 INT in 40 games.

He is barely an NFL player, I give him zero credence.

He should go back to doing his A-list commentating like his former job on Battle of the Bots.

Big Whiny LOSER! He wanted a million dollar contract and got kicked to the curb!

On February 26, 2008 Salisbury's contract was not renewed by ESPN. Salisbury suggested, according to Profootballtalk.com, that he was unhappy with his salary and status compared to those analysts who were more prominent players in their NFL careers. Salisbury explained, saying that “I’d grown tired of being punished for not being an NFL superstar,” He also complained that “analysts who don’t work as hard as me, don’t prepare as hard as me, and don’t have my resume were making more than me just because of their ability to throw or catch a football.

I am sure the Cowboys were overjoyed to hear him being a part of the Fan when they were negotiating to sign them as the franchise radio station.

I see them as a factor because in the 70s and 80s they were a franchise that was run as a second rate pro football franchise. They were as invisible as the bills are now.

Who would put them in the conversation? NO one.

If he was talking about just slapping the silly americas team name on them in 01, which I still dont get they are not from ny, well that is different.

I think the whole thing is silly and just brings more unwanted and un-needed criticsm and attention at this point.

I know I am not. I could care less what he says on the air. I have listened to his show with newy for about 20 minutes since he has been on the air and he and newy are terrible, they are not radio people.

THe fact that this idiot is going to have something to do with the weekly radio broadcast sickens me. If he is part of the pregame I will be ILL. The postgame will be fine because most likely I will listen to the ticket after the official interviews are done.

He has one way of getting people to listen to him, attack people personally and go after the people with the biggest names. I cant believe he got hired here, although he lives here.

The term 'America's Team' belongs to the cowboys so live with it. Trying to steal our team's nickname would be like if some other team was to steal the terrible tower, title town, the bronx bombers, and so on. Certain nicknames of teams, cities, stadiums and other things usually stick. There have been several domination defenses in the league but none of them have been called dooms day or the steel curtain. Those are names that belong to one team only. Teams have to come up with other nicknames for their teams and stop trying to steal ours.
