The results don't lie.
A whole lot of fans say the nickname is offensive, and then will turn right around and tell you why another team (usually theirs) deserves it. How is it offensive if someone deserves it?
They never try and adopt other nicknames except a couple of years ago they wanted to see who was the real "Titletown, USA." It's Green Bay. It is always going to be Green Bay. The Cowboys could win the next 20 Super Bowls and it would still belong to Green Bay.
Nicknames are not transferable and they are not transient. Even in 1989 when we were 1-15 the press was calling us America's Team.
Bob Ryan of NFL Films chose the nickname for the 1979 Cowboys Highlight film. Not anyone with the Cowboys. The name stuck.
I believe the name America's team refers to popularity more than the success of the franchise, By popular vote, there are more Cowboy fans in America than any other professional team in sports , the only exception to that rule is the New York Yankees.
Both franchises are synonymous with winning as our first priority. I don't think there is any other reasons why we were pegged "America's Team", And rightfully so !
Sean Salisbury is a bitter and jealous man.
