Did the Cowboys just repeat the worst trade in franchise history?

LMAO like this is going to get this team in the playoffs. Commanders win the division, Philly runner upper and then us and the putrid Giants.

First no team is ridding themselves of that production unless player is a problem [see Gordon] or is old and losing a step. Why would they? Their have been plenty of WR's traded but not with Amari age and pedigree and production.

He is saying that if cooper becomes a top 10 this trade becomes defendable.

And considering the same team is in full rebuild mode, it not surprising they are getting rid of players of value. If anything, it shows a positive light, one of the few players worth trading away. Although we overpaid for sure as it stands, that could change if Cooper becomes the 1000 receiver every year. Big if, though.

Nobody would spend a 1st rounder on a guy if his production was going to cap out where Cooper's has thus far.

Cooper has to be better than he ever has been in order to justify the pick that was lost. Terrance Williams produced on a comparable level through his first 4 seasons.

He's a reclamation project. Might be one of the best the team has invested in based solely on age, but he is not the projected player he once was. After 3-4 seasons, you either are that projected player, or you are not. Currently, Cooper is not.

Look at it this way...if the Eagles had trumped us with their offer of a 2nd round pick for Cooper most of this forum would have been in meltdown saying that the Cowboys had not been aggressive enough.
Sure we stretched for him but with little WR talent in next years draft and it being a glaring need for this team it had to be done. What we will also see is whether Dak really is the QB we want to invest $100+ million dollars in or not so it kills 2 birds with 1 stone.
Welcome to the Cowboys Amari, I hope you prove the doubters wrong!

mr Monkey---- amari has 2 pro-bowl 1,000 yd seasons...he is fast and strong and a great route runner...he deciphers defenses...and he is not the usual "Diva" high maintenance player....defenses will have to game plan for him..which will ease things for Zeke and other receivers and Dak...He is better than any of the first round talent in 2019 and is only 6 months older than Calvin Ridley...he is only 24..so its like we got our first round pick early and he has experience and success already....yes we paid a lot to get him...but i applaud bold move by cowboys to try and win the East this year
He's also been one of the worst in the last four years with drops.

Lots of straw here. As far as Prescott being worth 100 mil plus...N...O...P...E. He better learn to start protecting himself while running the ball...before he really does end up in concussion protocol like Cooper. He ain't Cam Newton.

My feeling is that the two firsts impacted the Cowboys more than the one lost to Williams.
That's a good point too.

The difference with Roy is that we actually had a team worth something in 2008, instead of a team that was simply dying. And beyond the cost, putting Roy on the field made us worse. Galloway was at least a good player.

But maybe I should cut Roy a little more slack than I do. The timing of the trade was not his fault.

Headfirst slide is the worst. Just makes him a target for a concussion. He'd be safer finishing the play like a running back.

If Cooper becomes a top 10 receiver and helps fix this offense and Dak then the trade was more than worth it. The Galloway trade was the worst in franchise history. No WR is worth 2 #1's. The fact he got hurt in his first game and became just an average receiver who had no QB's worth anything throwing to him made it even worse.

BTB’s stuff has really gotten better. It’s a good article. Thanks for sharing.

“The NFL’s Next Gen Stats reveal what Dak is dealing with, as the league tracks the yards of separation between a receiver and the closest defender when a pass arrives. Just 36.4 percent of Prescott’s passes have gone to open receivers (3-plus yards away from a defender) this season, the lowest rate in the league among quarterbacks with 200 or more attempts. The league average is 45 percent. Prescott’s average pass goes to a receiver with 2.9 yards of separation. Again, that’s last among the 22 qualifying passers. Just 43.9 percent of Prescott’s pass yards have been generated by receivers after the catch, which ranks 21st out of 22 passers.”

So, apparently the Cowboys have an itch to scratch every ten years or so. Monday the team traded the team’s 2019 first-round draft pick to the Oakland Raiders for wide receiver Amari Cooper. This comes exactly ten years and eight days after the team sent future first-, third- and sixth-round draft picks to the Detroit Lions for wide receiver Roy Williams. That trade came eight and a half years after the team sent two first-round draft picks to the Seattle Seahawks for wide receiver Joey Galloway.

Cowboy fans are desperately hoping this version turns out better than the previous two. The Joey Galloway trade was rated as the sixth worst move in franchise history while the Roy Williams trade is widely regarded as the single worst trade in franchise history.

Those two moves share many similarities with the acquisition of Amari Cooper:

No the worst trade was the Joey Galloway trade. The boys would have probably drafted a WR in the first round next spring anyway. This way they got a young proven WR and get to use him this year already.

We are an average football team who thinks we are one average WR away from becoming something more. We are dreaming. As soon as Cooper arrives there will be a new one and only reason why we continue to be average and you can bet it will have nothing to do with the head coach or the GM.

The biggest similarity is the desperate owner thinking he is one player away, all that this trade does is highlight the terrible job this FO did in player decisions in the of season, this is simply the knee jerk reaction to "we screwed up again" and they reacted in total desperation reaching for a guy who averages 47 yards a game this year and 48 last year. He is a upgrade yes, a savior you all are anointing him no. Anyone who believes this team is one WR away from a championship team is delusional. Question to all, who is going to get him the ball? Giving up a first to see if Dak is good was just plain stupid at this point. Welcome to Jerrys world.

Seems like the DC game-plan is to load up the LOS, slow Zeke down and apply quick, heavy pressure on the QB making him get the ball out quick. Until Dak can overcome this strategy by the opposition, the WR really won't matter much.

Not at all..

I’m totally on board with this trade now...

The QB, HC, OC, and the entire team must now put up, or shut up..

If we miss the playoffs, Garrett will likely be fired, and if Cooper doesn’t produce significantly, then it’s apparent Dak just can’t get him the ball...

Would any of you really prefer Dak, Linehan, or RHG have a excuse for another disappointing season?

I can’t endorse this trade enough at this point, and maybe, just maybe, we actually make a playoff push!!

Not as bad as the Galloway or Williams trades by far. I don't see Cooper doing much here. I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing him quit within 3-4 games when Dak continues to struggle.
