Did You Have a Favorite Cowboy Who Wasn't a Star?

I thought you were going to say Percy Howard.
Heh, I thought I was too, but then I couldn't believe Hughes hadn't been mentioned yet.

Percy Howard had one of the strangest careers of any professional athlete who ever lived.

And just inches away from the winning TD, which would have made it stranger.

Awesome thread.

I'm 23 and started watching the 'Boys during our run at Super Bowl XXVII.

Some of my favorite non-stars over the years...

Kevin Williams
Alvin Harper (if he counts)
Chris Brazzell
Killer Keith Davis
Jason Tucker
George Teague
Brock Marion
Jason Garrett :)
Dale "Mr. Reliable" Hellestrae
L.P. Ladouceur
Torrin "I'd die for my teammates" Tucker

Montavious Stanley- he had one the greatest draft day interviews ever.

Several posters have mentioned Bill Bates and Moose, but those guys were Superstars in my eyes. ;)

Hey, that's me! Same name and everything...

I'd say he's my favorite too. I wore #85 when I played football back in Junior High.

Dennis Thurman
Kevin Gogan
Jack del Rio
John Gezek
Benny Barnes
Jay Saldi
Glenn Carano
Steve Beuerlein

Thurman Thomas
I love Thurman too. His fumbles and the gutless way he begged out of the game with a fake injury in Super Bowl XXVIII handed us our 4th Lombardi Trophy!

:laugh2:

It appears that people missed the first post stipulating that:

But did you ever really love a player for the Cowboys who was just a guy on the team with no hope of a long career?

A lot of the players people are bringing up played for a long time and had solid careers.

Amos Marsh - A RB from the early 60s who I really liked. He & Don Perkins made a great tandem in 1962.

John Fitzgerald.

The guy was one of the most steady centers in the game. Hardly ever missed a block and was the guy who snapped Staubach the ball on the first shot gun formation we used in 1975. The shotgun is older than that, I think it was Red something who was a coach with the 9ers in the early 60's who came up with it. But Fitz was the guy and he was a very steady Center for us.

Ironically, he was pulled from the "Hail Mary" game because he was having trouble with the shotgun snaps. Tom Rafferty, his successor, was just as solid.

Clint LOngley....just kidding.

Preston Pearson has already been mentioned but he was my favorite. The original 3rd down specialist. And could very well still be considered one of the best at it.

Remember the shoestring tackle he made to preserve the shutout against the Rams in the '78 NFCC?
He was in my second tier. I was hoping someone would mention him.

Love that guy. Kelvin Martin is a close 2nd for me too.

Jason Garrett.

A buddy of mine and I used to go on and on about how we liked Garrett as a back up QB.

I remember Mike Lucky too. He was a big ole boy. I liked him as well.

Also I better not go through this thread again and not see James Washingtons name!

+1, KMart and the Shark, whats not to love about those two.

Tony Tolbert. An absolute rock against the run who seemed to rush the passer better in the playoffs. I think he is even up there on the alltime leading postseason sack list. He had such bad knees that he was basically crippled after each game and had to ice his knees for days. He was a true warrior and winner. I'll never understand why the draft of '89 was not considered one of the greatest in history. Aikman, Johnston, Stepnoski and Tolbert. All were huge contributors to 3 SB championship teams and all made the Pro Bowl at some point. Oh, and there's at least one HOFer in that group too.

Tony Hill was my man, when I first became a Dallas fan

I gotta include Kenny Gant too, I used to hit the shark dance after a good hit in Boys and Girls Club football

Last and probably least Paul Palmer.. LOL I don't know why but he was my favorite player during that 1-15 season
Tony Hill was pretty close to being a star though.
