I know this is not gonna be a positive take here but I do believe we take a different approach this year. I would like to see the following happen and I believe I will not be to far off.
We will resign Donovan Wilson, LVE, Fowler, Hankins, TY, Peters and do a new contract with Tyron Smith and Elliot. We are going to sign a 5 year contract with Dak that takes pressure off this year and the Jones boys will not let go of him.
As far as Free Agency goes we will go out and get a very good Vet WR and DT. I feel we roll with Diggs, Bland and Lewis at the CB spots we will be strong at S and LB with Clark and Cox a year away from surgery. When the draft rolls along we can than go WR, OL, or BPA and we should be good heading into next year.
I know this isnt Madden and we have a salary cap but we can kick that can a bit without going all the way in and be screwed for years.
The Vet WR like an OBJ will make a big difference short term and not break the bank. A difference maker at DT will cost us but not to the point we are doomed after this year. If Dak is protected and we have that defense playing like it did in Frisco as long as we stay healthy we will be a tough out.

I could see it play out that way, but Jerry is going to have be willing to spend in free agency.
Something he has been unwilling to do.

Two years in a row we end the season in the playoffs with Dak putting up a 60something QB rating against SF.

That's more than a fluke. That's a serious signal. To extend Dak now is to accept that it's totally acceptable to lock for the next 5 years a significant risk of mediocrity, at the end of which we'd be looking at *more* years of mediocrity to rebuild.

I'm not saying mediocrity is certain. But two years in a row of worse than mediocrity puts the burden of proof on those who expect anything better.

This should be a prove it year for Dak and McCarthy. If they can't prove it in the playoffs, it's time to move on from both of them.

You have this feeling because the Cowboy's defense proved it can play in big games. When the Cowboy's offense does the same i will jump on board. Unfortunately that really can't happen during the regular season.

It will feel different, when they do something different.
At this point I don't feel they will.
But we have a month before FA starts. So all we have is speculation and what we want them to do.
Should be entertaining.

I'm sorry but any post complaining about the state of this organization that doesn't included Jerry and Stephen Jones can't be taken seriously. Where were Mike McCarthy and Dak ten years ago when we weren't winning, where was Romo in the late 90s and early 2000s?.They weren't there and this same stuff was happening. Do you realize the the joneses were gifted 2 pro bowl qbs while only having to give up 1 4th round pick. The players can change but in basic problem solving you search for the constant and identify it because that probably where the problem lies.

Dak currently has the second highest cap hit in the NFL in 2023 and 2024. They put themselves in a position where they have little choice but to extend him.

The fact that you want to resign Elliott makes your thread completely null and void.

You do know there is a salary cap right? Your thread is written by a guy that has no concern for cost or a salary cap.

Next year will be no different. Why some fans continue to think JJ is going to magically start doing things differently then what he has did over the past 28 seasons is beyond me. Sure a few names will change just as they do every year but besides that Dallas is still ran by Jerry Jones and it's going to continue to be done the same way it has been for over a quarter of a century.

The only thing that has changed is they have let some bad coaches go and replaced them with different bad coaches who were already paid by the cowboys in some capacity.

A team can have more than one problem.
