By game 5 Quinn will be run ing the show.
Hopefully we'll draft a QB in the first 3
Cut Zeke ,tag Pollard
Create enough space to not extend Dak.
Then I woke up, I'll finish this dream tomorrow night.

Dak currently has the second highest cap hit in the NFL in 2023 and 2024. They put themselves in a position where they have little choice but to extend him.
Can't they cut him in 2024 for about the same hit?

Yes, I feel it too. There is a newness, a crispness in thought and players who are totally committed.
Yes, things feel and are different... I am not bawling, it is something in me eye.

Why on earth would one feel they may do anything different next year? Don’t do that to yourself.

A team can have more than one problem.
You own a restaurant and you haven’t been to it in months, you finally go in and it’s a mess. Tables are dirty, food taking too long to get out, waiters are rude to customers, foods not tasting right. You have time to have only 1 conversation, who are you talking to to figure out what’s going on, the dishwasher or the manager?

Your going to talk to who in charge because the manager is responsible for all that happens. The Joneses are responsible for all the failures we’ve had over these 28 years.

The fact that you want to resign Elliott makes your thread completely null and void.

You do know there is a salary cap right? Your thread is written by a guy that has no concern for cost or a salary cap.
As always you either didn't read the post or you were not able to understand it. But thats ok I know certain posters need to come on here showing they know more than everyone else or just need attention. So i will take the time to break it down for you.
1) I did not say I wanted to resign Elliott. Knowing the Jones past with players and the fact they said they did wanted to keep Zeke they would have to restructure his contract. You do know if we release him he still counts against the cap the next 2 years if he is a June 1 cut?
2) Also said there is a SALARY CAP but you should know better that with restructures if you want to free up money you can. The moves I brought up would definitely take up cap space but would make the team much better without an all in for one year approach.

Maybe that was part of the plan all along when Jerry and Stephen caved in to Dak's demand for only a 4 year big contract? They (all 3) knew Dak would get extended some time during the last 2 remaining years in order to create cap space.

True. Yet, you keep following, watching and complaining about this team. Whose fault is that? The manager or the customer? lol

I know this is not gonna be a positive take here but I do believe we take a different approach this year. I would like to see the following happen and I believe I will not be to far off.
We will resign Donovan Wilson, LVE, Fowler, Hankins, TY, Peters and do a new contract with Tyron Smith and Elliot. We are going to sign a 5 year contract with Dak that takes pressure off this year and the Jones boys will not let go of him.
As far as Free Agency goes we will go out and get a very good Vet WR and DT. I feel we roll with Diggs, Bland and Lewis at the CB spots we will be strong at S and LB with Clark and Cox a year away from surgery. When the draft rolls along we can than go WR, OL, or BPA and we should be good heading into next year.
I know this isnt Madden and we have a salary cap but we can kick that can a bit without going all the way in and be screwed for years.
The Vet WR like an OBJ will make a big difference short term and not break the bank. A difference maker at DT will cost us but not to the point we are doomed after this year. If Dak is protected and we have that defense playing like it did in Frisco as long as we stay healthy we will be a tough out.
It’s not what I would do.

Donavon Wilson: I love him but we are paying two vet safeties to start, we have Mukuamu who was really promising, and Bell looks plenty good enough to develop as a 4th safety. We should upgrade somewhere else.

LVE: He’s just too big an injury risk with the neck. I’d rather pool the Wilson and LVE money together for a top DT like Payne.

Fowler: Why bring him back? We have D.Law, Armstrong S.Williams and Parsons which is pretty darn good, bhha late pick developing is all we need to round it off.

Hankins, TY, Peters: More than happy to bring them back.

Elliott: Why bring him back? We’d be so much better franchising Pollard at 10m and drafting a partner for Pollard.

what they do in free season will tell us all we need to know. If they penny pinch and go cheap, then expect 2nd round as the ceiling for the year.

No WE keep following, WE keep watching and complaining (Dak and McCarty) about this team. So yes WE are at fault.

Whether you love him or hate him, the Cowboys are stuck with Dak Prescott. The team and coaches have to learn to win with him, or continue being an also ran. But keeping Zeke is just dumb. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Thank him for his service, and cut him loose. If they keep Zeke, it is a waste of time even watching the Cowboys next year.

As for Tony Pollard, franchising a RB who just had a devastating injury isn’t a good decision. Look what happened with Michael Gallup this past year. Pollard won’t be back to his old self until the 2024 season. There is no reason (other than loyalty) to pay Pollard a big salary next year. If he’s not willing to sign a 4-year contract, then you let him walk also.

CB is a real need. I would cut 2nd round bust Kelvin Joseph, and resign Anthony Brown to a new contract. Brown is not a star, but he is a solid contributor with good speed who can play inside and outside. That said, the Cowboys still need to spend a high pick on another CB. Bland is a nice surprise as a rookie, but not enough. Rollin with Bland, Diggs and a young rookie, plus veterans Brown and Lewis is a good plan. If one of the other younger CBs steps up, even better. Remember that keeping Lewis and Brown doesn’t mean they cannot be cut or traded if a younger player shines out.

There are many defects on the team. But RB and CB are the biggest needs, IMO. The Cowboys need help on the interior line for both offense and defense. They have a decision to make at TE with Schultz. They need speed at the WR position. The need to make a long-term decision on LVE, and either sign him, or look for someone in the draft.

I think free agency will be a key time for the Cowboys this year. If they keep the wrong players, and don’t really address some weaknesses, then they don’t have enough draft capital to fill the gaps. A 2nd round miss on Joseph, plus a 3rd round miss on Tolbert in the last two years has the Cowboys behind the 8-ball. If they had hit on those two lost picks, they’d be in a much better position. But now WR and CB are positions of weakness that should have been strengths.

I see the change at playcaller as negligible at best, regression as probable.
I still see the same QB with the same fatal flaw.
Poor decision making with the ball in his hand, especially in big games.
Can not beat 4 consecutive playoff teams regardless of coach, scheme or personnel support.

For the reasons above I see this season ending the same as the previous 28.
Same as it ever was.

Two years in a row we end the season in the playoffs with Dak putting up a 60something QB rating against SF.

That's more than a fluke. That's a serious signal. To extend Dak now is to accept that it's totally acceptable to lock for the next 5 years a significant risk of mediocrity, at the end of which we'd be looking at *more* years of mediocrity to rebuild.

I'm not saying mediocrity is certain. But two years in a row of worse than mediocrity puts the burden of proof on those who expect anything better.

This should be a prove it year for Dak and McCarthy. If they can't prove it in the playoffs, it's time to move on from both of them.
I do t get why everyone wants to pile on MM. Dak, the coach killer is the player throwing multiple INT games. You KNOW MM isn’t going to be coaching Dak by saying hey throw us two picks per game just to keep it interesting.

Dak is Kirk Cousins. Plays good enough to make you think he’s the guy but he’s going to throw enough picks to prove he’s not the guy.
