If he is so good why is he available???

In all seriousness anyone training to be a journalist today is crazy.
That profession is absolutely in flux.
Stability in that field seems a pipe dream.

Never a big fan nor a big hater of Dennis.
There are certainly worse local reporters.

I am an old fart. I remember when there were actually usually at least decent sportswriters in most places and there were great ones around.

Now frankly there are no great ones at all; mediocre is about the best there is; and 95% are as I said worthless in all ways.

After 16 years of top-notch work at KTVT, Steve Dennis -- the most aggressive television reporter on the Cowboys beat who always was primed to ask pointed questions -- has been told he is out.

Dennis said he was called in by management at KTVT and sister station KTXA (Channel 21) last Thursday, a day he was assigned to be at the golf tournament at Colonial, and told he was no longer needed.

“I’m looking for work,” Dennis said Friday. “The Cowboys season is bearing down on us and I have to be there.”

Dennis, 53, said station management told him, “We love you but we are doing away with your position.”

The print media has changed since the internet. News is available instantly, so the writers of the past have to become opinionated columnists simply to keep a job.

People like Frank Luksa and Blackie Sherrod would get pink slips now. Back in those days, not every game was televised outside the local markets and the writers were storytellers. They were responsible for painting a picture and often it was romanticized, geared specifically from a fan based perspective because that was the audience. It made out football players to be heroes and goats, games became like greek tragedies when they were done with them.

Why people think for one second this would be applicable or even functional today is beyond me. More people can see things for how they actually are and not through a story invented around a three hour game.

Times have changed and that is all there is to it. That is why the "good" writers are few and far between. This isn't the good old days anymore where concrete factual reporting matters anymore. That is why I do not waste my time getting concerned about the media being "tabloid". All of the media has become that way.

sad thing is that most will never realize what they are missing now.
