"If Roy Williams doesn't turn out to be the player they thought he would be when they made the trade, I think this would be one of the biggest busts in the history of the league."

Well duh.

The Saints gave up a 1,2, & 3 for Steve Walsh.

The Vikes gave up the top of 3 drafts for Herschel Walker.

Dallas gave up 2 #1s for Joey Galloway.

This trade could turn out awful, but it won't be anywhere near the worst ever, not even if Roy Williams turns into Rae Carruth.

Don't forget the Ricky Williams Draft Trade that New Orleans pulled off. That was complete lunacy.

I still think they're an extremely talented football team.
While the latest hand-wringing/Terrell Owens is "irreplaceable"/our receivers ain't nuthin' without initials thread gets underway, Aikman's most important statement will hopefully not become lost in the customary brouhaha. Having a qualified number one receiver is very important, but what will always far outweigh that fact is the sheer talent level of the team itself. The latter will be the overwhelming reason why the team could engineer itself an opportunity to compete for a championship, not the former.

Im not really worried about it.

He can play.

I agree RW can do the job. I will disagree the worst trade in the history is what Minn gave up to get Walker who in no way made them a better team and they gave up a hell of a lot more than we did to get RW.

It will never touch the Walker or Williams trades in terms of being the worst. It will never even come close.

If Roy Williams doesn't do a thing in Dallas for the next 3 years it won't even come close to touching how bad the Galloway trade worked out for us.

I like Troy, and respect him, but he's way over-reaching on this.

Based on the nature of Aikman's comments, I can see why some posters think he "hates" on the 'Boys. Clearly Troy doesn't think the move was well-advised, but I think it's pretty early to be making statements like that. Let the season play out, and if the "player" is not all that, then probably the analysis is worth something. Otherwise, it just sounds like media snarling to me.

I agree. I think if things do not work out then it will be a setback for the Cowboys but it is not like Dallas gave up multiple high picks for the next 2 years or so to make the trade.

Over the past 6-7 months this trade has been a bust. I dunno about the history of the NFL, but perhaps one of the worst in Cowboys history. One thing should be noted about the Galloway trade was that we had a very unstable QB situation at the time.

I still laugh that Jerry went into the draft saying he was satisfied with the WR situation. Then halfway through the season he pulls the trigger on this trade.

was about the post the same thing

the Vikes had alot of tape on him too when they traded for him, and they gave up much more for him

If Garrett did not want Williams, then it would be eerily similar. If memory serves (shaky proposition), the Vikings coaches did not want Walker because he was at his best out of the I formation and the Vikes were a pass oriented team that never ran the "I".

Result was a very misused Walker and a very bad trade for the Vikings.

Troy is right, Roy has to be among the best in the NFL to validate what we gave up for him.

I think he'll produce, and I'm a huge Roy fan but 800 yards and 5 TD's will not justify trading for him.

I read where Garrett wanted Williams. Other teams were after him, and Dallas chased three big receivers just like two other teams in their division.

I think people need to remember the 2006 and a good portion of the 2007 season Roy Williams. That is the player Dallas traded for.

In my opinion, I look for Williams to trim down, like Larry Fitzgerald, and be the big possession receiver the Cowboys need.

This guy has some flaws he can work on, but he was in Detroit. Why can't he improve? He was already pretty good, and he put up number 1 numbers and made the Pro Bowl in 2006. He was putting up big numbers in 2007, but the quarterback and Lions imploded. Plus, Williams hurt his ankle at the end of the year.

Everyone said that Leonard Davis was a "huge mistake".

How has that worked out?

Also, I've read (Dallas Cowboys.com) where Williams had a foot injury like Stanback had. If that's the case, no wonder he couldn't run in the second half of games, during December.

As far as the trade goes, Dallas really gave up a number 1 pick for a WR with some skins on the wall. The pick I would want back would be the third rounder, but Dallas has the ammunition to pick twice in round 3 or twice in round 2.

Winning will. I hope he has big number but if this team goes from 1st rd knock outs to champions I could careless about RW individual numbers. It is all about winning

Is it Apollo Creed or Khiladi that ALWAYS comments on Troy's views of RW? I'm sure they will be on this thread like stink on dookie in a minute!

:laugh2:

Definitely me. Not ashamed. Roy was border-line garbage last year. I'm more excited in the prospect of Miles Austin than Roy Williams actually.

Is this the same Aikman that told Jerry to "go get Galloway"????

Two #1's and the guy get's hurt the first game or something? That, and the over-inflated loyalty signings, who weren't even on the team killed this franchise for years.

Roy11 won't even come close to Joey. Sorry Troy...go sell some wings!

Another factor in how spectacular a bust it would be is the fact that we got rid of T.O. because we thought we still had a #1 WR on the roster.

Exactly.

I'm very skeptical about Roy's ability to be a superstar... hopefully I'm wrong.

when is Aikman ever going to say, making Jason Garrett the highest-paid coordinator in NFL history was the biggest bust in the NFL, especially after having two WRs handed to him on a platter, one a HoF receiver and another, a Pro-Bowl WR.
