DMN: BLOG: Can Cowboys afford to get rid of Greg Ellis?

I can't forget the money. We can do too much with it that helps this team. Keeping Ellis means either Victor Butler or Branden Williams is put at risk to be lost to another team. I'm not willing to do that for a 33 year old malcontent, even if he can rush the passer.

Fair enough. Spencer worries me though.

I don't like Ellis' attitude, but I don't trust Spencer.

I am all for cutting older players and letting our younger players develop. I think cutting TO, Henry, Pacman, etc. was a good move and it allows players like Austin, Hurd, Jenkins and Scandrick to grow and become starters.

But I am not comfortable going into the season with Spencer as the starter and 2 rookies backing him up. Every time I think of Spencer I think of the Ravens game, and the fact he has very few sacks.

To me, the most heartbreaking plays last year where the two 60+ yard runs vs. the Ravens. I still get a bitter taste in my mouth thinking about those two stupid plays. That's why I don't trust Hamlin anymore. And that's why I don't trust Spencer.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I haven't watched Spencer enough to have a valid opinion on him. I may be putting too much stock on one game...but those are my impressions right now...
