Deion Sanders guested on the Michael Irvin show on ESPN 103. 3 this afternoon. Here's the Prime Time scouting report on the Cowboys hope to be the No. 1 receiver. Keep in mind Sanders is a huge fan of Terrell Owens. Maybe that factors into his analysis. Maybe it doesn't.

Sanders on Williams

"Well he's big, not fast, not great feet. Not running great routes and really not a practice guy and practice is where you find timing."

And that is the NFL Network analyst's PG-rated report.

"I'm trying to be polite," he told Irvin.

And there was more:

"It's going to be a tough year for your tight end Jason Witten," Sanders told Cowboys fans."You don't have a No. 1.(wide receiver) So what do you focus on? Your tight end. Now you're tight end is your No. 1 receiver. You double him on the inside and the outside and your big fellow (Roy Williams) has got to win outside and that's not going to happen.

I guess he hasn't heard that RW and Romo have been practicing together for a few weeks now. Maybe the guy is trying to improve his route running and his timing with his probowl QB.

who cares what that tard says. Go do another reality show and keep that spotlight shining right on your bald dome dude.

and in 2004, we lost dan campbell and terry glenn. Jason witten had his best season, he was basically unstoppable that year. So there goes that theory.

That little group from the nfl network is going to be impossible to watch just like espn this year. They are all mad the white guys didnt fired or blamed so they are going to have an axe to grind all season.

Remember Deion's athletic gifts and what happened when injuries robbed him of those?
No those have slipped my mind, please write a detailed description of them, 500 words or more.

I was disappointed in RW for his uninspired play and Red for not finding a way to inspire him.

That is water under the bridge, but he has some big shoes to fill when trying to replace TO.

So were none of these flaws evident as a Lion or did he suddenly become a turd after the trade? Why would Jerry trade for a player with this many (alleged) shortcomings?

I'm not predicting doom. But I don't disagree with that analysis of Roy either.

Honestly the guy has similarities to Alvin Harper that scare me a lot.

We need him to be MUCH better than Alvin Harper.

Yeah that is a little bit of a conundrum. Witten has been splittin defenses ever since he came into the league. Without TO and without a QB half as capable as Tony.

Come to think of it, Deion kinda slammed Roy during the Baltimore telecast. He kept noting thas Reed was shadowing TO on every play, leaving Roy one-on-one with a corner--matchups he wasn't winning.

Who gives a crap what Deion says?

There are plenty of weapons on this team and RW is one of them!

Deion's always been a moron. I find it amusing that he questions Roy Williams practice habits when Deion never cared for practice either.

Further, as theebs pointed out, Deion didn't let the facts or any research get in the way of pontificating on the rough season ahead for Witten. If nine toed Deion had done any research or had one ounce of credibility, he would have seen that Witten in 2004 caught 87 passes for 980 yards with Methusela at QB and the slow footed Keyshawn at wideout. Terry Glenn played 6 games that year. Eddie George was your run game as well, until Julius returned for the final 7 games. Seems #82 did ok with alot less weapons around him in 04.

Roy Williams does have a lot to prove with the Cowboys.

But I'll say this, and I enjoyed watching TO with the Cowboys the last few years . . . . all athletes' skills peak and eventually decline.

It happens to the great ones as well.

And often when it happens, it can be quite sudden. The decline is NOT linear (unfortunately for GMs).

IMO, TO's skills have peaked and they are on the decline. TO may have a year left, maybe two left, where he is still a good WR. His days of being a great WR are gone, IMO.

If the staff thinks that Austin's skills and athletic ability are on the upswing, and they have faith in him, we should give it a shot. If they have faith that RW can gain over 1,000 yards receiving (which he's done before) and can be a number 1 target (which he's done before), it's time to move on with younger players.

Just my 2 cents . . . .

Boy do I hope he's wrong.

He may have been right in the past but by all accounts Roy Williams IS putting in the work it takes.

Hes made a pro bowl before so you can't act like the guy is not capable.

But Roy Williams does have a lot to prove.
