Sorry, but I think there is a lot of exaggeration going on in this thread. I have a hard time believing that any of you guys that weigh close to 290 pounds can jump flat footed out of 3 feet of water. Maybe some of you guys that are 150 pound bean-poles can do it, but color me skeptical.

Most people can't jump 36" period, much less doing it out of a pool.

This post has gone unnoticed, and is EXACTLY right.

I think the people who are bragging that they or their buddies can do it, are just flat out lying or they are jumping out of those blowup plastic pools, with pictures of ducks on the side.

I've been swimming laps for over 20 years and I can do it quite readily if I haven't swam too many miles in the pool, so that's not a horrendously big feat.

You know what they say about horrendously big feet.....I'm just sayin'

I smell dynasty!!!! 1 SB for every foot of water jumped out of. Gilbert is a much larger man and it's more than 3 feet of water he jumped out of.

Well there's a big difference between having a 36" vertical (as normally measured) and being able to jump up onto something that's 3 feet high.

Jumping out of a pool really isn't that impressive to me. I know a couple of average Joes who can do it.

It is to me.... Just sayin!!!!

I don't give a damn if he's a physical freak or not. All that matters is if he can play football.

Seriously.

Play ILB.

Then I'll really be impressed.

Let me borrow ur cam and then we'll get on it. After that, if I'm in a good mood I'll not only do a gainer for you but I may do a 2.5 gainer and about 50 other dives that I regularly do if I arrive at the pool before lap time gets started. You don't have to be a professional athlete to do athletic things like this. This world is loaded, and I mean loaded with athletic ppl. Just because professional athletes get paid to do certain things doesn't mean other ppl can't. They thought guys from the world league couldn't make it in the nfl either. And no I don't weigh 290lbs. but neither does Jamal Williams. He should be able to do that with his height and weight, especially since training is his life. I would say many in the nfl can do that.

I'm quite aware that we didn't draft a 290lbs linebacker; I was referring to Jarron Gilbert. I seriously doubt that the average 290-300lb nfl player could jump out of a pool even though they have been training all of their life's.

I agree the world is loaded with athletes but what separates NFL players from other athletes is their size. There is nothing special about running a 4.4 40, in my prime I could do it in my sleep as could quite a few others in my neighborhood, but when you are 6'5" and 235lbs like Calvin Johnson it becomes freakish.

I'm 6'2", 170 lbs... and I have enough of a vertical that I can dunk on a regulation hoop (with about 80% success rate).

I tried jumping out of 3 feet of water yesterday just to test this, and I failed miserbly.

I'm just saying.

The state champion sprinter in my senior year of track claimed he did a 4.3 40. A 4.4 40 is really freakin' fast no matter what size you are.

Well I must admit that we were timed by hand not electronically.

That's ridiculous.

I played seven varsity sports, and was pretty fast in high school in comparison to most of my peers. I remember being timed by stopwatch my junior year at a 4.5....and I had just come off of an achilles tear the year before. Two years later, as a freshman in college I was timed again. I had increased my speed noticeably in the two years since, and I was timed at a 4.7 using three watches. The junior year time was obviously bull****. In my experience athletically, I'd say about .5% of athletes can run a legit 4.4. It takes a very special athlete to run that fast. Hell, only about 5% of college football players can do it.

Well i don't know what to tell you. All I can say is that my coaches clocked me at 4.44 and 4.48 in the 40 and they also clocked a few others on our team in the 4.45 range. A few of my buddies didn't play football but we raced all the time and if i beat them it wasn't by much, so i just assumed they were close.

One thing i know for a fact is that quite a few of us could dunk a basketball and the average height was about 5'10" and none of us played for the school. But thanks for clarifying because I didn't know I use to be such a special athlete.

You're welcome. I'm glad I could stoke your ego for you. :D

Basically, I just think that there are a ton of people who "ran a 4.4 in high school".....only they really didn't.

That could be true.

But based on my experiences i thought that when you are about 5'9" and weigh about 160lbs and your 18 yrs old then running fast and jumping high was no big deal.

I did run w/ a pretty athletic group of guys though.
