DMN Blog: Jerry Jones talks playcalling, team's chances, GM

This is what you get for hiring an OC first and a HC 2nd. Your basically forcing two strangers, plucked from out of nowhere, to coexist and gel together.

They don't even talk!

We have three Head Coaches. One for the Defense, one for the Offense and one just hovering over everything,

What a joke. No wonder our team sucks.

Not only that, you give one of them a huge contract for an OC so he doesn't go be an HC elsewhere, making it quit clear that the current HC is just keeping the seat warm.

Wow. Ignore what's happened the last 3 years and most of the last 13. Unbelievable.

Not ignoring anything. I think this team is pretty much removed from the 5-11days and the talent level on this team is much high now than it was then including recent addition to the team. If you see if different fine but over the last few season Dallas has been viewed as a playoff contending team no one mistake them for that before. Over the past 3 years we have gone to the playoffs twice once as the NFC East division winner. Believe me I'm disappointed that we did not advance but that is a long way from where this team was and yes this team still have a major hurdle to get over

Here's a thought, crazy but hear me out:

Jerry should fire Wade and coach the team himself that way when we go 4-12 he will snap out of it and hire a real coach. Let the ole crazy coot get it out of his system, then we can go back to winning again once we hire a real coach and GM...

I said it before. I could swear Jerry had a play sheet in his hand during the Panthers game. There was a shot of him in his booth and it looked like a play card. I'm serious!

Jerry just isnt a good GM ....his track record speaks for itself (10+ years without playoff win). The more I see the more I believe this is about Jerry "getting his fill" as owner wearing a football hat rather than putting the team in best position for true success. But as owner he is P.T Barnum of football...he is the trend setter. Its kind of like Wade Phillips - great DC bad head coach. If a psychologist could somehow convince Jerry he isnt cut out to be GM and Wade isnt cut out as Head Coach....this team might actually make some head way.

:laugh2: My point was that Jerry is not credited for any of his personell decisions. It's all given to Parcells and Ireland. How much depth did we have when they were here? Or when they left?

I'm sure that there are more out there than you'd realize... And i'm not suggesting that is a good thing but draft status is irrelevant when the game is played.

How many teams have spent the world and sold their soul to draft a QB in the first round and regretted it horribly? Once again draft status is irrelevant when the game begins... just ask Favre, or Warner, or Brady... none of them were drafted in the first two rounds, but all of them have a super bowl ring!

Thats because the evidence is clear. The only time the TALENT on this team has IMPROVED is when Jerry had a football guy calling the shots. (Johnson, Parcells) Every time Jerry jerks the thing back into his own control, we live off the past for a few years, then nose dive. You watch. This thing will nose dive and people will stop coming, and Jerry will get desperate and make some hire that pacifies fans but doesn't make it too uncomfortable for himself (shannahan or holmgren) and we will go through the whole thing again.

On the nosey
I don't doubt it one bit.

I doubt Jones is in the skybox with a secret line to Wade or anything. He's too busy partying. But I haven't a shred of doubt that during the week, he's saying "Wade, you need to do this and you need to do that."

I caught some of Jerry Jones on his weekly appearance on The Fan this morning, and he was not ready to throw away the season after a 2-2 start. No shocker.

Anyway, here's what he said:

"I really like our team. I like the makeup of our team. I like the quarterback a lot. I've been part of a team that lost the first two games and won a Super Bowl. You've got to be a little careful when you've got the length of a season that we've got."

On Jason Garrett's playcalling: "It's so easy to second guess playcalling. I think it goes with the territory. You've got to win consistently to keep it from happening. I do know what we do is well thought out."

On if he would ever hire a coach/general manager type: "No ... I don't have anything I don't manage. I just don't."

I just love hearing plastic gums spin this debacle of a organization.

BTW Jerry, I still ain't buying a ticket or anything with a Cowboys star on it until you're gone.

I'm not real happy with the Cowboys right now but all this Jerry bashing has always confused me.

3 superbowl rings, new amazing stadium and a passionate owner willing to spend money............yeah horrible.

Show me all the owners who have won 3 SB's in 20 years and provided their team with the luxuries the Cowboys have.........

Sure we are in a drought, it kills me just as much as it kills you but it's not like the guy feels any better about it then we do and I'm pretty sure if he could change it tomorrow no matter the cost he would.

Jerry Jones the owner= one of the best when comes to marketing and promoting the Cowboys.

Jerry Jones the GM= the worst in football, period.. Enough said!

Jerry Jones is pathetic... He truly is clueless! :laugh2:

He's always sauced. I think he should stay off the air when downing the whiskey.

Ya had to know that when Jerry didn't get his playoff win with Parcells, he had all the justification he needed to going back to doing things his way.

He basically said so himself. He was almost giddy talking about not walking on eggshells anymore and how Parcells way failed.

Jerry took that as vindication even though Jerry's way led us to three straight 5-11 seasons, while Parcells brought us at least to 3 winning seasons in 4 years and a couple of playoff appearances, the final one in which we should've advanced if not for Romo's flub.

What are the Dolphins at with Sparano and Parcells at right now?

They were 1-15 two years ago - where do you expect them to be now?

lol.

if they had a franchise quarterback where would they be should be the question.

The greatest coaches in the history of sports can't win without that.

On if he would ever hire a coach/general manager type: "No ... I don't have anything I don't manage. I just don't."[/quote]

That right there is one of the biggest problems this team will always have with him as the owner.

Makes as much sense as Jerry buying a hospital and naming himself lead surgeon. The results over the last 12 years prove it.

We need a HC, not a GM we have a pretty good GM

We have a horrible GM. 12 years of playoff drought with the GM being the only constant is damning proof that Jerry is terrible at GM.
