DMN Blog: Julius Peppers wants to play for the Cowboys

You did notice that Ware caused the pressure that forced the throw that Peppers INTed? :D

Combo looks good, make it happen Jerry.:p:

No, but they can clear space by waiving and restructuring some deals. I think he has played his last game in a Panthers uni.

I think we'd have to resign Ware before we'd even be in the market for Peppers, wouldn't we?

The man is freakishly athletic, BP always said that if he could have one player it would be Peppers.

But Ware is about to get 12 per, Peppers wants the same or more - I just don't think its possible without us restructuring Roy, losing Ellis, and possibly dropping Owens.

Well lets see here is what I would do:

Release Greg Ellis first and foremost because Peppers will fill that void Now I am not saying that Anthony Spencer can't fill it but can you imagine Ware, Peppers, and Spencer together WOW what a combination. Then work up a trade to where SS Roy Williams, Bobby Carpenter, and Marcus Spears plus our 3rd rounder to Carolina and see if they will go for that. If not just give our 2nd, and 4th rounder (2010 Draft) plus LB Bobby Carpenter, and Marcus Spears. Now these are just suggestions. Maybe there could be a different scenerio, but I know someway some how if Jerry wants Peppers I know he can get it done. What do you fans think about these suggestions?

3-4 DE's
Marcus Spears 6-4/315
Chris Canty 6-7/304
Jason Hatcher 6-6/304
Stephen Bowen 6-5/304

Luis Castillo 6-3/290
Igor Olshansky 6-6/309

Aaron Smith 6-5/298
Orpheus Roye 6-4/330
Nick Eason 6-3/305

Richard Seymour 6-6/310
Ty Warren 6-5/300

Julius Peppers is 6-7/280 and has said he'd prefer to play around 260 lbs. Most 3-4 DE's were DT's in college and would be a DT in a 4-3. Peppers played DE, TE, WR, and Power Forward in college. He is, in every sense of the word, an athlete. He wants to be in space and use his speed and athleticism to make plays.
He's massive. He's listed at 283, and could easily add 10 lbs or so.

The Cowboys DEs have played in the past at 295, and Ratliff plays NT at only 300. A beefed up Peppers could easily do it. He just doesn't want to.

Just don't hold your breath for it to happen. With no first-round pick, it'd be difficult for the Cowboys to put together a reasonable trade proposal. With the plan to make Ware one of the highest paid defensive players in the game, it'd be difficult to create cap space to give Peppers that kind of deal, too.
I still can't get over the fact someone doesn't think Jerry can make this work.

Dude, thats not my post. :laugh2:

Besides, Jerry cannot make that happen unless Peppers is VERY willing to make it happen. We are already tight on cap space, and no way I sign Peppers to a contract that makes it difficult to resign Ware.

You don't need to trade for a Free Agent.

When are we going to learn that it's not only about adding superstars. It's about playing as a team and a cohesive unit.

With the dysfunction on this team, even if we did sign Peppers, I could still see us falling short of the Super Bowl.

I just can't see a situation in which we wind up with Peppers. It's a really nice thought, a wonderful dream to put him and Ware on the same field, but I just don't see it happening.

If Peppers had been in this situation last year, before we gave Barber and Hamlin and TO the contracts that we did I could see it happening then cause you wouldn't have given all 3 of those guys quite as much, or you'd have replaced a couple of them.

I just don't see it happening this year.

There isnt a guarentee that the Panthers would get a first rounder for Peppers. Teams arn't going to give that up AND pay him a ton of money..

I think if he isnt franchised..The Cowboys should get Ware's deal done..cut some fat and see where they are from there..There's always a way to get someone if you want him bad enough..

I think it's a huge advantage of Peppers wanting to come here.

Why would you think that after the Vikings gave a 1st and 2 3rds for Allen who has had a major drinking problem in the past?

Exactly, they are going to re do Jake's contract. I think he counts 11 mill this coming year.

I'm not sure why people are talking trade. We're not going to trade for Peppers. The only way we go after him is if he falls through the cracks for financial reasons. And even then he's going to be quite expensive.

Not.

Happening.
Jordan Gross will have a new deal within the next few hours and Peppers will likely get tagged.

At that point, this thread dies a quick death.

The Cowboys probably have more $ tied up in future contracts than any other team. If the Cowboys can find a way to move $ around to afford a guy like Peppers, rest assured that the Panthers can as well.

They're generally not a high spending franchise, so I doubt they go the franchise route, unless they're certain they can trade him.

Peppers is an outstanding player and probably instantly the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team, but this hardly puts us over the top. Peppers just adds to the talent on a team that is still substantially less than the sum of its parts.

But that won't stop Jerry from trying to find ways to add high-priced talent, while avoiding dealing with the real issues that keep this team from succeeding.

They actually had a thing last season about this time about Jerry Jones and his money. And basically were saying he could do more with $10m than most teams' owners could do with $20-30m.

The guys' got a knack for money and that's all there is too it. If he wants a player like Peppers, money won't be an issue.

The question is, not can we afford him, but does Jerry want him? Add in his "desire" to play for us out of a select few, and suddenly Jerry's job is easier if that is in fact the route the Cowboys want to go.

And really, this would be like a dream, Ware and Peppers opposite one another. I would say Jerry also sees this and the odds are quickly rising that we could make a play for him.

To be honest too, he reminds me more of that "Charles Haley" type then say a Ray Lewis does. If we're going to go defense once, I'm starting to really like the idea of Julius Peppers in a Cowboy Uni. We could certainly do worse with our money, that's for sure.
