DMN Blog: Julius Peppers wants to play for the Cowboys

The thought of Peppers and Ware is making me smile big time. I doubt it happens, but look out Wade would really have some toys to do some exotic blitzing.

This all hinges on if he is franchised or not..if he is then just kiss it goodbye! I wouldn't trade for him

BUT...if he's a UFA then it's a whole different story..

I'd live to see him at ILB on some plays just to have him, Ware, and Peppers all on the field together. Someone mentioned him moving back to DE..I don't feel he could play DE in a 3-4 at all. Unless, it was as an occasional pass rusher.
Peppers could easily play DE in the 3-4. Not sure he wants to, but he'd be able to physically able do it.

peppers as a 3-4 DE is a complete waste. You do not take one of the premier pass rushers in the nfl and have him play DE in a 3-4 scheme.

They can "want" all they want to. They will take the best deal they can get but it will ONLY happen if Peppers is willing to sign a long term deal with the trading team.

3-4 DE's
Marcus Spears 6-4/315
Chris Canty 6-7/304
Jason Hatcher 6-6/304
Stephen Bowen 6-5/304

Luis Castillo 6-3/290
Igor Olshansky 6-6/309

Aaron Smith 6-5/298
Orpheus Roye 6-4/330
Nick Eason 6-3/305

Richard Seymour 6-6/310
Ty Warren 6-5/300

Julius Peppers is 6-7/280 and has said he'd prefer to play around 260 lbs. Most 3-4 DE's were DT's in college and would be a DT in a 4-3. Peppers played DE, TE, WR, and Power Forward in college. He is, in every sense of the word, an athlete. He wants to be in space and use his speed and athleticism to make plays.

This is nothing more than a dream. There is next to no chance that Peppers will play in Dallas. I just cant see how they'd financially make it work out over the length of a deal with Ware due to get an enormous raise here very soon.

Man Peppers would be awesome at 260 lbs playing opposite of D-Ware!

Imagine Ware and Peppers opposite each other, with a finally healthy and revamped Roy Williams roaming the middle.

I would just kneel the ball if I was the other team.

OMG, our defense would improve Millions if we had Ware and Peppers.
OLs biggest nightmare, which Sackmaster do you double?

Lol, OTs would be like ****! Help me out OGs!!!!

If I only had a nickle for every time I've heard a similar claim on this board... :showme:

But I'd buy into this one all the way.

We're not going to sign Julius Peppers people.

Or Albert Haynesworth.

Or Ray Lewis.

Or the Oakland CB that nobody can pronounce.

DeMarcus Ware is the only impact player this team will be signing this offseason.
yeah just like when everyone said we wouldnt trade for another top wr

how that work out?

if the boys really want him they can make it work. i would prefer haynesworth but i wouldnt mind peppers

To me, this is just another example of a player about to hit the market looking for that probable last big payday knowing that Jerry is a good a bet to pay for a name.

The clock is ticking in Carolina. They have under 9 hours left to swing a deal with Gross so they can Franchise Peppers. If not, they will Franchise Gross and Peppers will be a UFA.

Even if they do manage to re-sign Gross, would they then have the available cap space it would take to franchise tag Peppers?

No, but they can clear space by waiving and restructuring some deals. I think he has played his last game in a Panthers uni.

So do I.

But I'm a bit torn over whether it would be a smart move if the Cowboys were to somehow sign him and have so much money tied up in both he and Ware.

On one hand, they'd have two of the league's best pass rushers and be a terror for opposing offenses.

On the other, they'd have over $20 million per season tied up in two players.

You did notice that Ware caused the pressure that forced the throw that Peppers INTed? :D
