Martellus Bennett: 'I played like @#&%!'

Martellus Bennett didn't mince words when he was asked to grade his performance.

"I played like [expletive]," Bennett said. "I knew what to do and I did my assignments. I just didn't play up to par what I wanted to play."

Bennett had one catch for nine yards, but he also dropped another pass that could have been catchable. If he didn't know by know, Bennett sure knows this -- this isn't the Big 12 anymore.

"He knocked it out of my hand," Bennett said. "That's a drop if I don't catch it. I didn't tuck the ball fast enough. So it's just something different. In college, you get an extra second. Here you don't get an extra second when you're tucking the ball away."

At least he's honest. Load of talent, but he's got a LONG way to go.

Well I'm glad he realizes this isn't the Univ. of Houston on the other side of the ball... Everyone is fast in the NFL.

Well, he's a rookie in his first game.

At least he takes responsibility. He'll improve over the next few weeks for sure.

He took the words right out of our mouths. Let's make it a policy to trade out of the second round each and every year.

I don't know that I've ever seen anybody tuck the ball away as quickly as Witten does.

All I know is that Brad didn't do him any favors leading him into the killshot. I thought he looked good running down the field, it was his blocking that concerned me.

It may take longer then I hoped for the light to come on for this guy. Eventually it will and when it does we will be in great shape at TE.

Hmm, it's a bit early to say he's not going to be a player.

I could live with the miscues if I saw an enormously high ceiling. What bothers me is that for a guy of all his supposed freakish athletic ability, I haven't really seen it translate to the field --- at A&M or in this preseason game. And based on training camp reports, it doesn't seem like he's wowing out there either.

He was billed as a huge, monstrous red zone threat that has a basketball background and can jump through the gym. Granted, it's early, but I haven't seen/read any of that translating just yet. It'd be nice to see a glimpse or two at some point.

I agree...a yr of learning and gaining weight/strength and he should be fine.

Texas A&M isnt exactly USC when it comes to offensive system, I always thought that'd be a problem for Bennett too...

Thats why I wont be surprised if they sign a veteran TE before the season opener...not a name guy, but someone dependable who can block some...Curtis cant block either

Witten is gonna be up there in the argument for all time best TE, The other guy just needs to be able to block and catch 10 balls a year.

I don't see this kid getting it, too immature and had too much money too soon.
