He would still be better than Fasano.

Yes, but you wouldn't need to use a 2nd round pick to find a TE better than Fasano.

At least he's honest. Load of talent, but he's got a LONG way to go.

Just like Burnett? What is this honesty crap? The guy should be given leeway because he didn't lie? Yippee! Give me a break, if he came out and said he thought he played fairly well, he would look like an idiot. The only thing that has any truth to it is the play on the field and we all know how that turned out.

That's what I love about this game, the truth always comes out on the field. I could give a rat's *** what a couple of jokers admit to afterward.

Yes... and he didn't. That's a good thing.

At least he knows he has a lot of work to do and a long ways to go. He does have the athleticism to be very good, so the fact that he knows he's got a long way to go, bodes well for his future.

That's all theo was trying to say.

Interesting spin. Here's my take...

Guys who play badly are bad players. Guys who play badly and admit it are bad players.

Again, who cares if he knows he has a long ways to go, the entire viewing public could see that with their own eyes. Who cares? Talk is cheap and so it Bennett's one-way ticket out of town.

But give him some work on the asthma field before he leaves, just for kicks. :LOL

I understand your viewpoint on the subject... and I'm with you to a certain extent. If he keeps playing poorly and then saying he played bad, it's not gonna matter what he says.

However, if you could have either of these two scenarios, which would you pick?

1. Rookie plays poorly and says, "I have all the god given talent I need. The QB is a backup and just led me straight into coverage. Not my fault."

or

2. Rookie plays poorly and says, "I messed up. I really need to work on correcting my mistakes."

Anyone would rather have the second senario. In both instances the rookie plays poorly. However, in the first, you don't get the impression that the player understands he has a lot of work to do.

IOW... if a rookie plays poorly, you'd rather him own up to his bad play and vow to work to get better. We need to give him a little longer than the first preseason game before we start killing the guy, is all I'm saying.

Gotta respect his honesty about the situation

not really. It's easy to say you played like crap and then go about not doing anything afterwards isn't really nothing to respect.

He's playing and practicing like a guy who knows he won't be cut due to his draft positioning and bonus.

I am still wondering about this draft selection. A TE from Texas A&M -- a team that does not use their TE....strange that we traded Fasano away to pick him up. I sure hope he learns very fast because he looks terrible.

yea he someone needs to lit a fire under his behind.... But then again I never understood the concept of drafting a 2nd round TE when you all ready have a All-Pro TE....WR would have been a lot better....

Yea I think we drafted higher than he should have picked him up at. Just another case of JJ pulling the trigger on a player he was high on.... I remember hearing that JJ wanted 2 trade up for him....

The thing is, they tried to use their TE. Martellus Bennett was their star recruit and probably the best pure athlete on the team. He just wasn't a very good football player.

Classic JJ picking a day 2 to UDFA player too high. That was a bad draft pick the second his name was read.

I'm really rooting for Bennet. He's the player that intrigues me the most because of his athletic ability, but it appears charcter is his issue. I'm just imagining a poor-man's version of Antonio Gates in our offense with Jason Witten would be unstoppable. However I'm starting to think Jerry Jones is taking on a "Matt Millen persona" in that he's obsessed with drafting tight ends in the 2nd round of the draft, whereas almost every year Millen woud draft a receiver. Don't be surprised if we see Jerry draft another one in 2 years. Hopefully Bennet grows up and turns out to be a player he's expected to be.
