I like Romo as QB but I am no longer under the chimera....

Watch out for droppings when under a chimera! (at least they would be mythical droppings--or is that droppings of mythical proportions?)

Maybe we should all have some counseling time with Tony to get our perspective right, and to feel better about our underachieving.

:hammer:

I think in some manner or fashion, the cowboys don't have any team leaders, that have the respect of having won any championship games as a pro. It seems like most of the free agents have come from losing teams. They don't seem to have force of will to drive the other players that extra mile to win.

Aikman on Cowboys chemistry: "I think the biggest concern, which has been well discussed, is the chemistry of the team. I don't want to speak for you, but I know that the teams I have been a part of that have won championships by and large have been talented teams. You can't do it without some talented players. But you also have to have some chemistry...and I know there are some guys who were members of those teams I was talking about who will tell you chemistry is not important....I tend to think (these Cowboys are) a team that does not enjoy playing football together."
So, if a Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, who played on Super Bowl winning teams, thinks that chemistry is a vital component for playing good football, who would object to that particular philosophy?

Kevin and Mike are breaking down what they would do with the Cowboys.. Awesome stuff...

A fanciful mental illusion or fabrication.

Lesson: words get their meaning from the company that they keep. :):D

I have not read all the postings so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet. I watched a show on the NFL channel and one of the topics was about Irvin talking to Jimmy Johnson about several players only caring about paychecks and how they needed to be cut and were. They have the same problem now. No heart. Irvin was the best thing that ever happened to The Cowboys. Thankfully several players had the same attitude at the time. Irvin was the reason for the 3 superbowls. He had his demons but without him the 3 wins would not have happened. He deserves more respect than any other Cowboy of the 90s.

I could'nt agree more!! Mike was definately the leader and emotional backbone of the team. He's by far my ALL TIME favorite Cowboy..

Anyone being honest with themselves has to agree. Nice to know some fans are willing to admit it. Mike was the glue that held it all together. Easy to understand why every other teams fans hated him.

I just hope fuzzy lumpkins, or nobody like him is in control at Valley Ranch!

Talk about accepting mediocrity, and liking it too! If that's not being spoon fed, I don't know what is.

BLEH!!

i would say that all three of them were irreplaceable on that team because of how hard they worked, their talent, their leadership, and each accepted his role and subverted their respective egos for the betterment of the team. it is a unique and truly great team that can win 3 SBs in 4 years (and should have won 4 in 4 if not for the firing of jimmy). as much as i appreciated them then, if I had known what was to come in the next decade i would have apreciated them even more.

BTW, they lost that CC game to SF because of turnovers and not the lack of Jimmy Johnson. IMO.

Yeah, it's probably just game-prep stuff where the announers interview the players, etc.

I want them to become like best buds, and have secret handshakes and go on fishing trips together.

Why stop there?

Just adopt the freaking kid.

Aikman lives in Dallas.

How great would it be so see Aikman dropping Tony off at practice every day!!!

Who's kidding? I ain't. I really ain't though.

My birthday is in March and this is what I am asking for.

I knew I smelt something rank last night.

Barry Horn E-mail News tips

Michael Irvin had Troy Aikman on his ESPN radio show today at a North Dallas restaurant. My favorite moment came when Irvin co-host Kevin Kiley mentioned that Aikman and Joe Buck were recently named America's second best NFL broadcast team by some publication. It had Al Michaels and John Madden No. 1. "Oh please," said Aikman-fan Irvin said, almost under his breath.

Now on to Cowboys talk:

Aikman on Dallas Morning News sources dogging Tomy Romo's practice habits:
"I know this: There was never a source that said Michael Irvin doesn't practice hard. There was never a source that said Jay Novacek doesn't work hard. And so somewhere in there somebody doesn't think that (Romo) is doing what it is he is supposed to be doing, which I find hard to believe only because I've had the opportunity on a number of opportunities to visit with him. I've talked to him before a number of games in production meetings. He is a real historian when it comes to the game. It's important to him. He wants to be good. And I think that he's got skills that are very unique..."

More on Romo:
"I think maybe things happened so quickly for Tony in terms of obscurity to all of a sudden national spotlight that he hasn't fully grasped what being the Cowboys quarterback is all about. And you don't go to Cabo the week before a playoff game. You just don't do it...To say 'I don't worry about perception,' you better worry about perception because it is a big part of making it through some very difficult times...I just thought you never wanted to give...anyone reason to think you didn't play well other than you just didn't play well."

Aikman on Cowboys chemistry: "I think the biggest concern, which has been well discussed, is the chemistry of the team. I don't want to speak for you, but I know that the teams I have been a part of that have won championships by and large have been talented teams. You can't do it without some talented players. But you also have to have some chemistry...and I know there are some guys who were members of those teams I was talking about who will tell you chemistry is not important....I tend to think (these Cowboys are) a team that does not enjoy playing football together."I

Irvin said he "went through the roof" when he heard Romo downplay the importance of the season-ending loss to the Eagles. Said Aikman: "I don;t know after a game like that when you are trying to win and get into the playoffs...I don't know that at that moment you want anybody putting life into perspective for you."

And finally, Aikman:
"At the end of the day it doesn't matter what your style or what your approach is as long as you win...But when you lose everything is open to scrutiny."
I like that Aikman addressed perception. Perception can be everything.

Romo's *shrug* "If losing a game is the worst thing that happens to me..." comments (seemingly after seattle, NYG last year and Philly this year) gives the perception that he doesn't care; not just to his teammates but to his opponents. That can build up an opponents' confidence to beat you and dash a teammates confidence in you.

If it's true that he has poor practice habits (takes it easy, basically plays around) coupled with the attitude above, I can see why some players may have lost respect for Romo and why they'd be angry/upset and want to talk to coaches and/or the media about it.

I think it's about time people stop kissing Romo's behind and start holding him as accountable for his actions/words as every other player on this team.

He did have Jimmy Johnson hammering Steve Walsh down everyone's throats, though. I mean he was drafted, and then Jimmy turns around and spends a first on Walsh, right? And then continued see-sawing them back and forth before finally caving and just declaring Aikman the guy.
You can't compare Romo to Aikman coming out of college. Note the difference in this photo from one of Aikman's visits to training camp in 2003.

Troy Aikman was the best quarterback of the 1990s. He's a Hall of Famer. His arm and accuracy and leadership combined to orchestrate a dynasty. Tony Romo has a strong arm, not Aikmanlike, and he has great accuracy.

However, it's the leadership part that sets Aikman apart from Tony Romo, and it's the leadership that I overlooked when I compared Romo to Aikman.

Romo can do some things that Aikman couldn't do, but his lack of leadership is the difference.

That is what I was saying to some people here yesterday.

Totally agree with Troy.
