Apparently, NFL vice president of football operations Ray Anderson didn't see Terence Newman's comments on Wednesday in the same light that Timmy Mac did.

Ray A. and T-Mac, obviously, have very different senses of humor. Fort Worth's own though No. 41's thoughts were pretty funny. Anderson, as this letter penned to Newman indicates, didn't. Here's the some of the text:
I am writing in response to your public comments today in the San Antonio Express News. Specifically in the Dec. 5 edition, referring to the Lions’ Jon Kitna. You are quoted as saying, “He better just hope I don't blitz off the edge because I've got 15, 25, 30 (thousand dollars) however much it would be for a fine. I've got that much for one fine. Revenge will be sweet, definitely."
You comments were thoughtless and irresponsible in view of the negative impact such statements have on all of us in football. They are contrary to what the NFL stands for, and do a disservice to the League, your team and yourself. The public’s view of NFL players is essential to our continued success as the most popular sport in America, and you comments undermined the good that so many players have done in developing a positive image. You are among the privileged few able to represent the NFL to our youth and communities. Like it or not, you are a role model … with all the responsibilities.

Be advised that your comments will now compel us to carefully monitor your activities in this weekend Cowboys-Lions game. As you know blatant fouls may subject a player not only to fines, but to suspension as well. So conduct yourself accordingly.

Romo's policy: No bulletin-board material

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

Don't ever expect to read or hear any Jon Kitna-like quotes coming from Tony Romo's mouth.

"I've never been a guy to get on people, because I know I'm going to play them again," Romo said. "I wouldn't want to give them an edge."

ROMO is smart beyond his NFL playing experience.

Good.

He brought this upon himself with these comments.

The good news is; I doubt he'll do anything now because the NFL is going to be watching him very closely. I doubt (or perhaps, hope) Newman is not dumb enough to do something anyway....but now he has a nice little letter outlining what could happen if he does attempt something.

Man, it's a shame that they seem to have no knowlege at all of all the charity work TN does, or the foundation he just set up... All because of one stupid radio comment.

I usually just lurk for the most part, but I need to give my 2 cents. It figures that the league would have a fit about this. It seems to be a little hypocritical to me, like it's OK for Kitna to shoot off his mouth but it's not OK for Newman to say anything. To me at least, Newman didn't say anything that inflammatory. It's not like he is going to deliberately take him out permanently. Newman is just sending a message, playing mind games if you will.

It seems that if a player on another team did this, nothing would happen. BUT because it is a Cowboy, the league has to be sending letters and such.

You watch, Newman will get called for a PI when it won't even be close to a penalty. That letter pretty much said for him to watch his back.

That's all

I know he deserves it and all, but if you got a letter that condescending and belittling, wouldn't you feel like driving to your employer's office and taking a huge dump in his office?

"Undermine that, moron!"

This is wonderful; now the NFL has set its foot firmly on the path of intent. Nothing has happened so far except for people opening their mouths. No one's been hurt, except for some feelings apparently. The PC parade marches on.

It's their league and they are free to do what they want (for now), but somewhere down the road this will backfire on the league office. Their lawyers should negotiate an increase in fee schedule, because one day, they'll have to earn it.

Kitna called out Newman, James, and our team for bad play.

Newman made comments regarding a hit and being fined.

Seems pretty clear to me which one of the two would get a letter.

I think I was guilty of pointing out the same thing the NFL is, last week on Romo. And we decided that the bad behavior always out shines the good. The difference is what Tony was doing would not hurt the team as a whole.
Only his own creditability.
I hope Newman doesn't do any thing foolish.

James and Newman both need to shut up. The best thing either of them could have done was let their play on the field this Sunday speak for its self
This is school yard stuff.

That was my first thought. Not the dump part, but that the letter was awfully patronizing. You can almost read where he edited out calling him 'boy' a few times.

Newman did cross the line. He better have his head on a swivel when Detroit turns the ball over.

Isn't it great to have more player-access?

Surprisingly, TO has handled it marvelously.

I see your point but Newman did not say anything about permanently injuring or hurting Kitna. This wouldn't be happening if Kitna had not opened his mouth first. I think the NFL is overreacting again.
