that is a letter to be expected.

I am curious though, what was the fine to mike furrey for throwing a ball a hundred miles an hour 3 feet below the head of a handicapped child and in the process destroying the property of the stadium he was in?

Anyone know what he was fined for that?

Isn't it great to have more player-access?

Surprisingly, TO has handled it marvelously.

Yup.

owens has been a saint. As one of his biggest detractors, I'm pleasantly surprised. There still is plenty of time though.:D

I think if Newman had of left out the "fine" statment his comments would have not come under league scrutiny. That aside, the NFL has such a double standard, the big hits that draw penalities and fines are used everyday to promote the league on TV.

I usually just lurk for the most part, but I need to give my 2 cents. It figures that the league would have a fit about this. It seems to be a little hypocritical to me, like it's OK for Kitna to shoot off his mouth but it's not OK for Newman to say anything. To me at least, Newman didn't say anything that inflammatory. It's not like he is going to deliberately take him out permanently. Newman is just sending a message, playing mind games if you will.

It seems that if a player on another team did this, nothing would happen. BUT because it is a Cowboy, the league has to be sending letters and such.

You watch, Newman will get called for a PI when it won't even be close to a penalty. That letter pretty much said for him to watch his back.

That's all

I have to disagree with you. What Kitna said is just plain STUPID, especially for a player who haven't done much in this league. However, what Tnew said was intent to injure a player, especially when he claims to have the money to pay for the fine he might get. And since players are only fined for hits or plays that are NOT considered 'legal' (at least theoretically), then what Tnew said implies that he plans to hit him, regardless of whether the play is considered legal or illigal.

On the other hand, if Tnew had said that Kitna was say... 'no Joey Harrington' and that the lions WRs seem lost running thier routes then that can be considered an equivalent to what Kitna's idiotic comments suggest.

I believe the answer to this question is "Zero dollars".

No?

I'm sorry...

"What is 'Zero dollars', Alex".

I love Newman, but he deserved the letter and I agree with its contents. His comments did make the organization look bad; we don't need that. Just look at the black eye the organization had in the 90's, where even people in our own city looked down upon the cowboys because of their actions and turned to other sports, such as baseball and hockey (mavericks hadn't become good yet). We just now have cleaned up our image, and even T.O. has been behaving himself.

I don't believe he was fined for that act.

T-New should have known better. Those Kitna comments were made a season ago. Let your play speak for itself. Don't telegraph your intent otherwise the leage may overreact to it. In effect you are possibly nullifying your playmaking.

That stated where was the letter from Mr. Snailpeepee to the Giants players that publically stated they were going to stick it to Tony and were even going to knock that grin off his face....

Newman didn't say anything about personal injury, but by saying he has enough for fines, pretty much put it in the context of why this is causing a stir.

He should have just said he's looking forward to hitting Kitna, since after all, the goal of playing is predicated on hitting.

All in all, big deal; I remember some of the remarks (or at least the tone) frustrated linemen and linebackers used to say about Fran Tarkenton, because they couldn't catch him. It was funny.

The league should remember what made football the greatest sport in America and it isn't the current nanny generation of cry babies. Football is about watching the great hit, along with the great catch, the great run, etc.

And see, this is exactly what many of us knew was going to come of this escalation...It's gone back on the other foot...So instead of having used Kitna's comments as an edge for the defense and team, now Newman's has reversed things and it's the pressure is back on Dallas not to mention has given the Lions a mental edge to work with.

May not amount to much in the scheme of things but no sense tilting the balance back like that...Wish Wade had done more than have them sign some piece of paper (Binding?)...Say this about Parcells, doubt this would've happened in his regime...Then again, we probably wouldn't be 11-1 either

I thought the tone of the letter was unprofessional and condescending. The league vice president who wrote it came across sounding like an assistant principal of a middle school scolding some 13-year-old who put a whoopee cushion in a teacher's chair.

It wasn't wise for Newman to say those things, but the NFL is hyprocritical in the way it handles many things. Players are going to talk. This is a physical game full of bravado and testosterone. The more promotional type of dialogue before a game, the better TV ratings and the more money for the league.

Save your heavy hand for the DUI offenders, the bar-brawlers and the dog-fighters.

Big difference, however, that doesn't make it hypocritical...One series of comments may have hurt some feelings with their analysis but the other was synonymous with a cheap shot or dirty play...No comparison there.

Good.

He brought this upon himself with these comments.

The good news is; I doubt he'll do anything now because the NFL is going to be watching him very closely. I doubt (or perhaps, hope) Newman is not dumb enough to do something anyway....but now he has a nice little letter outlining what could happen if he does attempt something.

Agreed.:hammer:

Bottom line. Newman will get his and Brady will get his. They aren't scared of some league letter.

Vintage can sing and dance around about how happy they are Newman got this letter. It doesn't change a blasted thing. At the end of the day you will see some big hitting on Kitna.

I didn't realize Vintage had such man lust for Kitna. I mean are you so worried about Kitnas safety you come out like that?

:laugh2: :laugh2: Com E Dy sister !! Com E dy !

I just heard his comments on the nfl network.

Not bad at all. he didnt need to throw in the fine part but again, he never said anything about hurting, injuring or cheapshotting anyone.

pretty much not a big deal.

i hope he takes one to the house sunday. it will drive the lions nuts.

In my opinion Newman said this to set the whole thing up and get the light on him...and my dawg Nate will be the one with the surprise late hit^^.

I don't even think it will be a late hit.

TNew draws the attention with the crazy comments, the Lions are all focused on him during the game, Nate comes in and lays the bang thing on him repeatedly, legally.

Anybody remember when Deacon Jones used to tell everyone that he tried to put quarterbacks in the cemetery, not the hospital?

I guess today he'd be put in the Gulag for that one.
