My question is did Osi or whoever it was for the Giants who made the same type of comment stating that they would hit Romo even if he already got rid of the ball to ratle him and wipe the smile of his face get the same letter? If not, I hav serious issues with it.

Man, it's a shame that they seem to have no knowlege at all of all the charity work TN does, or the foundation he just set up... All because of one stupid radio comment.

How true. The NFL fell over itself re a guy with a criminal record last week and now they are crapping on Newman.

In reality, Newman was stupid for saying anything. If you are going to nail a guy, don't say you will. Still, it did not deserve a letter from the NFL basically saying if you hit him, you will be suspended.

We need to stand up for one of our own. Hes a model citizen, donates his time to charity, and helps out the community. The league should have had some class and not released this statement publicly, clearly, this is an attempt to protect their reputation by attacking the reputation of someone who has an unblemished record.

Shame on them.

Drinking from the kool aid, apparently....Publicly admonishing a player in that manner reflected the public manner in which Newman went about his unsportsmanlike diatribe...It followed, tit for tat.

Smarter thing for Newman to have done, upstanding individual and all, was to zip it and let his play do the talking.

The way to handle this is to beat the snot out of Detroit, and when the press ask you about them, don't even acknowledge detroit as if they don't exist as an NFL franchise.

No need to go public about what you REALLY think. I know all the guys on the Cowboys defense would love to body slam Kitna, drag him across downtown detroit, and pee on his carcus, but you can't go public and say that. hahaha

Newman Placed On NFL Notice For Remarks

Rob Phillips - Email
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas - Terence Newman's reaction to Jon Kitna's now-infamous January comments roused more than just the local media or maybe the Detroit Lions. The league office took notice, too.

Hanging from Newman's locker Thursday was a detailed letter of admonishment signed by Raymond E. Anderson, NFL executive vice president of football operations, reprimanding the Cowboys cornerback for his remarks in a Sirius NFL Radio interview.

Newman was uncharacteristically candid Tuesday when asked about Kitna's verbal jabs towards himself, inside linebacker Bradie James and the rest of the Cowboys' defense following last December's 39-31 loss to Detroit.

"Basically what it boils down to is, you've got to watch what you say," Newman told Sirius hosts Adam Schein and Solomon Wilcots. "Your mouth can't write checks that your (butt) can't cash; that's what it comes down to. Everybody's going to see those quotes.

"He better just hope I don't blitz off the edge because I've got 15, 25, 30 (thousand) - however much it would be for a fine. I've got that much for one fine. Revenge will be sweet, definitely."

Not if the NFL has anything to say about it.

In his letter, Anderson called Newman's comments "thoughtless and irresponsible" and stated the league will closely monitor his actions in Sunday's game against the Lions. Any intentional penalties could result in a fine or even suspension.

Newman hasn't spoken to reporters this week, but Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said Newman told him about the letter during Thursday's practice.

Phillips rebuked his team for silly personal fouls earlier this season, even asking the players to sign a pledge against committing those types of penalties. Phillips said Newman and James, also irritated by Kitna's comments, were receptive when he asked them to play smart on Sunday.

"We're going to play a clean game - I don't have any doubt about that," Phillips said. "And they were fine with that. They're going to play like they're always going to play. They're going to play hard. They got a little riled up about what was said about them last year, but it's just motivation and that's OK."

I know he deserves it and all, but if you got a letter that condescending and belittling, wouldn't you feel like driving to your employer's office and taking a huge dump in his office?

"Undermine that, moron!"

Precisely my thoughts.

I'd be inclined to place a bag of flaming poop on Goodell's doorstep.;)

Which is probably appropriate considering he didn't overtly state (without having seen the exact quote) that he was intending to get a fine by breaking the rules.

Newman publicly announced a premeditated plan to do something physical and illegal enough to the opposing QB as to warrant a fine. That is stupid.

This is wonderful; now the NFL has set its foot firmly on the path of intent. Nothing has happened so far except for people opening their mouths. No one's been hurt, except for some feelings apparently. The PC parade marches on.

Sort of like some members on this boards.

Then the team can all put on skirts and have a Tupperware party. ;)

If that is what it takes to keep the league from singling Newman out the way the did Roy Williams, then put on the skirts and have a circle j... around the deviled egg platters.

ROMO is smart beyond his NFL playing experience.
it doesn't just show smarts, but lack of ego too. No need to talk...let his play do the talking for him. I like that!

I just wish Newman would have kept his mouth shut. It wasn't necessary. Why not just go out and let your play do the talking for you? Do you really have to threaten people over the radio over some guys opinion, some of which was 100% accurate?

It's just a bad reflection on us as an organization and it annoys the hell out of me. Think before you speak. Is that so hard?

I usually just lurk for the most part, but I need to give my 2 cents. It figures that the league would have a fit about this. It seems to be a little hypocritical to me, like it's OK for Kitna to shoot off his mouth but it's not OK for Newman to say anything. To me at least, Newman didn't say anything that inflammatory. It's not like he is going to deliberately take him out permanently. Newman is just sending a message, playing mind games if you will.

It seems that if a player on another team did this, nothing would happen. BUT because it is a Cowboy, the league has to be sending letters and such.

You watch, Newman will get called for a PI when it won't even be close to a penalty. That letter pretty much said for him to watch his back.

That's all

Cowboy4322

Ultimately, that "letter from the league" doesn't mean jack... Newman was never really gonna follow through on those threats, he was just getting inside of Kitna's head with them... so let the NFL watch T-New closely, he's already accomplished what he set out to do... he alerted Kitna to the fact that the whole Cowboys team is aware of Jon's trash talking last year, and they are not amused...
