Newman is way more valuable than Canty.

You can find 3-4 DE pluggers like Canty in the 3rd or 4th round. Frankly there were often times that Stephen Bowen was filling in and the difference was unnoticable.

The difference between Terrence Newman and a 3rd or 4th CB is the size of the Grand Canyon. And Good luck finding a Pro Bowl man-to-man cornerback.

I dunno, I consider Andy Reid and Jim Johnson very smart football guys, and they just decided to pay one a fortune.

And there were probably 15 teams lined right up behind them holding a blank check.

Newman can run a 4.3 in his sleep....:laugh2: Any concerns about his age is crazy, that doesn't determine a great corner anyway.

Teams just attack you where you are weakest. Last year that meant attacking Henry, Reeves and RoyW. I really think the impact of a #1 CB is declining over time due to the spread offenses and the tightening up of PI rules.

It is much better to have a solid secondary without a superstar than one superstar with a couple of stiffs on the field. It certainly didn't impede the Giants from knocking off the Pats.

Henry was not a weakness, he just had an injury. I believe he ended the year with 6 INT's...

Henry is injured every year. You can pretty much count on it.

Newman will be a career Cowboy. Music to my eyes. What?

Seriously. This is the type of guy that you build your team around.

I think Stephen is giving lip service.

With Pacman and Jenkins in the fold, I don't see how Newman gets that huge Top 3 CB contract. When is Henry's deal up? What was the breakdown of his deal?

I thought he originally signed for 5yrs, but dont know if they have tinkered with his deal since they signed him or not

I think this is his last yr here in all liklihood, unless they think they can make him a safety, in which case he might move over.

Dude. This CB depth is disgusting.

Hats off Jerruh. You took a real weakness and turned it into scary strength and potential....

Yessir. Very excited about the secondary.

Henry has done 3 years of a 5-year $25M deal with a $10M bonus. He has $4M of pro-rated bonuses left to be paid. I don't know about his salary the next couple of years.

If Pacman is re-instated and two of the other 3 CBs (Jenkins, Ball, Oglesby, Standrick) look like they can play this year, you would have to seriously consider trying to trade Henry this year or next. He does have some value - maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder.

If we can keep Newman past next season and PacMan keeps his nose clean we will have the best CBs in the league.

I don't know how many of you saw it but in The Blitz clip that theebs posted earlier today, there are some clips of PacMan covering Fitzgerald and T.O. That guy is an athlete and was like glue on those two guys. I remember that game against T.O. and in that game he slapped the ball out of t.O.'s hands in the end zone.

Wow! We have some serious playmakers in our secondary.

This will definitely be interesting to see how JJones is going to be able to resign all those guys (Ware, Newman, Canty, TO, Hamlin, and Barber).

This is my guess in the direction of how he might make it a little more manageable next year:

Colombo will not be resigned.
Henry will be traded or cut.
Roy Williams will be traded or cut.
Glenn off the books (nothing significant in savings though).
Ellis might be gone w/Spencer getting full time work.
Possibly Kosier cut (probably not a huge savings though). OL cuts are dependent on Houck making our OL draft picks ready for prime time.

Anyone else?

Next offseason, Henry will have played his 4th year in Dallas, of a 5 year deal. Meaning, the acceleration would be 2M if we moved him...

I think its pretty likely it would happen, if we give Newman an extension.

Then the question becomes, do we pay Hamlin? Do we keep Roy? What do we do at S? We could end up paying Hamlin and move him to SS; slide Henry to FS, and release Roy.

Or Roy and Henry could be both gone. Or Hamlin and Henry could be gone.

Hopefully, we'd keep one of the Roy/Hamlin tandem, if for no other reason than I really don't want to replace 2 Ss next year....

It would be Roy definitely. He cost way too much for taking up space.

Hamlin will be kept since JJones didn't do anything in drafting a replacement or finding a better S via FA.

Henry will also be gone imo if Newman is resigned, Pacman performs well and behaves, Jenkins catches on quickly, as well as other cbs doing well. Either way, I still don't see Henry being here after next year.

Look at my post above. That's my best guess.

Isn't there talk about there being an uncapped year due to a new CBA?

I think there will be some sort of a vote this regarding it - maybe November.

The Giants won the superbowl with who at CB? Who were those shutdown CBs the Giants had? It would be nice to sign T-New but at what price? 8 years and $100 million with $35 million guaranteed for a guy over 30 years old? No thanks!!! Seriously, the guy wants too much money. Cap hell is inevitable. Too much risk vs. reward.

Having two elite corners for the next 4 years would make us very dangerous defensively (if Pacman gets re-instated and picks up where he left off and TNew is extended).

I don't know if we have the space but we should have ballparked Ware before we start talking numbers with TNew. If the numbers work, then so be it - we will be very strong. You have to keep enough money available to fill out the rest of your roster with some quality and at least a little bit of depth.
