DMN Blog: Nick Folk understands why the move was made

Yawn, got any recent examples?

So your contention is that kickers used to be more valuable in the NFL than they are now?

You are a fan of a team that has dragged up Richie Cunnigham, and brought someone like Billy Cundiff out of a classroom and got good years from them, some example from 30 to 50 years ago does nothing for me.

You want to play that game?

mark Mosely, Drafted. NFL MVP in 1982. Let that sink in....NFL MVP !!!

Ray Guy. Punter. Drafted in the first round. Only punter to be in the Hall of Fame. HALL OF FAME..

Dime a dozen. All of them.

Just an FYI. I don't think Ray Guy is in the HOF.

I'm a fan of the same team that brought me Suisham part one, Jose Cortez, Vandernut, and a slew of other bums.

I can't talk any sense to you, the vast majority of zoners here are laughing at you, and quite frankly, I've wasted enough time proving my point.

Simply put, you are incredibly wrong, and I am right (along with most sane people).

Its late, goodnight.

My bad. You're right. There is a big push to get him in though, and he was named to the 1970's all decade team, and the 75th anniversary all NFL team.

Good enough for me though. You give me the opportunity to draft someone who makes that team, I don't care what position they play, I use a first round pick on them.

Maybe Cochese prefers Barbie Carpenter though.

Id rather have Carpenter, and I hate Carpenter btw, than piss away a pick on a kicker, who you can easily find off the street to do the same job.

You're right CW. He was the best punter to ever play the game and he should be in the Hall and would be if he wasn't a punter.

we can bring him back next year, its not like anybody is going to sign him.

Folk's a smart guy. The first rule in a situation like this is: don't burn bridges. You start badmouthing the organization or making excuses and it will be that much harder to find a job in the future. He said all the right things, and I hope for his sake he can get it figured out.

It's a good move. Hope the kid competes in camp next year. It's crazy how it all went down. Maybe some time away from it all will do him some good.

This one hurts me - dang I hate giving up on good people

Especially 25 year old guys who just mad the Pro Bowl two years ago. It sucks. I wish him the best. I hope he does return because there was a point where I had confident in his leg anywhere from 55 yards and under. This season got to the point I feared him even on extra points.

The best thing for Folk to do right now is go on vacation and get away from the game for a couple of months. Go see a good sports psychologist and try to regain your focus and confidence. Then go spend some time with Coach Hoffman and start working on your mechanics which were way off by the end. If the hip is good (and the leg looked strong early in the year on some of his kicks) he should be able to turn this around.

I'd invite him to camp next year if he doesn't sign with someone else to see if he has got it all figured out.

Agreed, I think we bring him back to camp next year if nobody else signs him.

I am bummed that it had to come to this for Folk. I hope things work out in the future.

On a different note. Each of these positions gets  .

I hate kickers...
Kickers are a dime a dozen...
Criticizing Jerry Jones for drafting Folk & Buehler... (so tired of weak Jones did it so it must be stupid agendas)

I can't imagine anyone signing him before the end of the season.

I want him back really bad!

I like the guy and I think he will get himself straightened out over the course of the offseason.

I appreciate the Jones' family giving me everything and Wade and Joe D. for sticking with me. I know it's been a tough run."

Classly on the part of Folk and I hope this is not the last we see from him.

I also think players see Wade sticking up for guys when the heat is on and taking the abuse while the player is given the chance to get things turned around and I think that means alot to the members of this team knowing the coach is on their side. For Folk, Wade did all he could in terms of giving Nick the time to work the problems out and he just was unable to get it going.

How about criticizing Jerry for drafting a kicker who can only kickoff?
