AND I SAID he would have a LOT OF WOOD TO CHOP before he can be near as good as the Hotel. And I do not see it happening unless he gets a whole lot better on his technique, which will take more then one offseason.

Well, I guess we will just have to wait and see next training camp. Im fairly confident IMO, as im sure you are too. Time will tell. Although TIME sure isnt on Flo's side anymore.

I would rather draft a top LT next year. Colombo is going to be gone in 2-3 anyway, more then likely. We are going to need a top tackle soon anyway you look at it.

I think Free has shown enough for Jerry to give him a shot at LT next season. Also, Brewster is a big deciding factor in this also. Will they play him at guard or tackle? I think they had hoped Brewster would be Colombo's replacement. Regardless, the Cowboys need to draft a top OL prospect anyway to cover themselves, in case Free and/or Brewster don't pan out. I'd love to get Anthony Davis from Rutgers. The kid is gonna be a stud.

I too want to see The Cowboys use a top pick on offensive tackle this next draft. Keep the bases covered.

Jerruh has never taken a OL in the first rd. I just hope someone hits him upside the head with a 2 X 4 this year and remind him of all the projects we have had over the last 10 years and so far only Free looks like he will be something. You look at all the top LTs in the league and how many were not drafted in the first or second rd (wasn't the Hotel a second rd pick?)
But anymore I think you HAVE to go first rd- not many any more make it big from the second.

Yeah, I agree. While this team is talented, there are glaring holes with the offensive line and even the middle linebacker position. Carpenter won't be here next year, Brooking is solid but aging, and Bradie James is steady but doesn't make any big plays. I think we go OL and secondary heavy next draft. A WR wouldn't hurt either.

And then, as if by magic, this article appears today! LMAO!!

IRVING, Texas -- Right tackle Marc Colombo might be able to return for the playoffs. The Dallas Cowboys haven't missed him nearly as much as anticipated while he recovers from a broken fibula and ankle surgery.

That's no knock on Colombo. It's a compliment to his replacement, Doug Free.

The 6-6, 313-pound Free, a fourth-round pick in 2007, appears to have ended the Cowboys' drought of drafting a starting-quality offensive lineman.

The Cowboys haven't had to give Free an inordinate amount of help. He's not as powerful as Colombo, but he has good quickness for his size and does a solid job of sticking on blocks.

"Free is a great example of young players and how they progress when they get to play," owner/general manager Jerry Jones said on KRLD-FM. "There’s just no other way around it. You’ve got to get in games and let them play games and they get better right before your eyes.

"I’m glad, for not only where we are but for the future, that Doug has had this opportunity. As we look to our decisions in the offensive line, we know we’ve got a player in Doug Free."

I didn't want Colombo hurt, but I don't miss his false starts, especially at home. He' good at the point of attack. However, space isn't his friend like Parcells said.

Keep playing Doug Free and don't look back.

Free is improving every game and is a starter in this league - LT or RT.

Gotta put Columbo back in if he's completely healthy. You shouldn't lose your starting job due to injury.

Plus, we could really use his attitude back on the o-line.

Hmmm, Brady or Bledsoe........

Agree, play the young guys.

If there is any way he can replace F. Adams at LT that would be fantastic. And P. McQuistan needs to be given a chance as well....that might be two young offensive lineman that can play. We need a lot more of them....

Free has played well but Columbo is better so yes he should start.

I don't want a guy on basically one leg out there trying to hold down the fort. If he is gimpy, which most likely he will be, no need to rush him back into the lineup.

Don't rush him. If he's not 100%, don't bother. Free's done pretty well.

That said, if he's ready, you gotta go with him.

I agree with this- that was a pretty bad injury.

I agree....if he's not 100% then stay with Free but if he is then play Columbo.

well hayseed some people do not live on this board. ANd I have to laugh at those that think since he is doing good so far at RT that he can step in and do as well at LT. Those are the people who know nothing at all about how hard LT is compared to RT. There is a reason its so hard to find a LT in the NFL that is really good. Just maybe he can be a good LT-MAYBE. BUT he will have to greatly improve his technique. Good footwork is extremely important, but when you can get bull rushed like he has been you have to work just as hard on your technique and that takes time and experience.

Heres what you fail to realize Burm......Flo is NOT the Flo of the past. For one thing in NO WAY was Flo EVER in the TRULY elite category Like say an Anthony Munoz. But Flo was once VERY good. Not anymore, age has caught up to him. He is now merely average to slightly above. Free on the other hand is young and emerging, very mobile, quick on his feet. Next training camp, whether you like it or not, Flo will be seen as a progress stopper by the folks at Valley Ranch. Free will be starting next season, on the left side....BOOK it. Younger, faster, CHEAPER,more mobile. Eventually, good young players, ...PLAY. That is all. :D

Go back and rewatch that Packer game Burm, then tell me all about tackle play after that. Watch and see how the rookie, Clay Mathews Jr made Flo look like he was running in quick sand. It happened EXACTLY THAT WAY....we all saw it.

Better yet go rewatch last seasons Arizona cardinal game. You know, the one where Romo got put out of the game. Travis Laboy ABUSED Flozell all game long, made Flo look like a fool. Dont take my word, go rewatch it yourself. Im SURE a great many on the board remember it though...
