DMN Blog: Owens missing practice again

It's good to see that finally the communal willing suspension of disbelief is coming to an end. Obviously TO could and should be practicing. Obviously, his injury does not appear to warrant 13-plus days off.

What's next? I like Mickey's theory that he'll practice very soon in order to play Monday night. Will BP bench him? Will TO respond with a nationally televised hissy fit?

Given TO's history, I would be surprised if this hamstring issue worked itself out without at least one temper tantrum -- after all, he wants those pretty much as much as he wants the ball.

And then, maybe, that will be that and TO will play nice...

Oh well, can't say we weren't warned...

Anquan Boldin and Steve Smith recently had the same injury (strained hammy). Anyone know if they're both back to practice or not? And how many practices have each missed?

An MRI would reveal whether there was serious damage requiring something extreme like surgery or a 6 week rest. That's all an MRI tells you.

Last year an MRI came back negative on Spears' knee, were people calling for him to get back out there?

Right. Spears reputation was untarnished. Find somebody else. That should take you about a year.

I really don't think you can compare those injuries if you don't know the severity of each.

No one has asked him to go balls out. Wrap it and participate.
1) So you're suggesting that by not going "balls out", he'd avoid the risk of reaggravating it? That's pretty sketchy.

2) "Wrap it up"? It's a hamstring, not an ankle.

then again there are some of us who are just sick and tired of going LOOK!!! TO BREATHED!!! WE TOLD YOU HE WAS A *******!!!! and this only makes it harder to take the "reporters" seriously when "unbiased" is a joke to them.

14 days for a tweaked (not even a partial tear) hammy? At this point I wouldn't depend on him starting the season. If he does its icing, but I wouldn't depend on him.

The worst part about this is that the longer it lingers on, the more it will fester in the press. The byproduct of such a cycle is that the flames fan themselves (think BP continuing to be pestered with questions in the PC, and getting aggravated with the whole situation).

Time is not our friend ...

The press conferences are going to start sounding like fingernails against a chalk board.

.... I mean more than they do now.

Hey, according to your synopsis he knows his body better than us. If he feels it becoming, oh let's say "itchy", then stand down for awhile. I don't want aggravation. I want some form of effort to participate at the very least.

Don't watch much football do ya? They wrap them all the time.

And what have we here, courtesy of ESPN...?

All-Pro receiver Steve Smith returned to practice with the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday, more than two weeks after straining his left hamstring.

Smith, who practiced with the first-team during the morning session, had been out since pulling up with injury on a long passing route on the first day of training camp July 29. He's been riding a stationary bike and doing agility drills on the sidelines during practice.

It remained unclear if Smith will play in Saturday's preseason game at Jacksonville.

No controversy for Smith's strained hammy that kept him out 2 weeks, yet tons of controversy for T.O.'s? I'm SHOCKED!

As I said before these people have never even been through a hammy injury and they have all this knowledge about it

I could careless about the press. They are just a nuisance. This has consquences on the field.

TO has been a dangerous weapon in the past because you can use him a lot of ways. The Eagles and 49ers have used him a lot in the slot and in motion. Even if he returned today, I'm not sure the Cowboys would have time to install special packages for him in camp. He'll be lucky if he can get down the basics of just the flanker position in a new offense by the time the season starts.

Yes, because aggravation gives your body warnings before it actually happens. So if a player knows his body well, aggravating any kind of injury is impossible. Hilarious.

What's up with Terry Glenn and his blisters? Can't he get that taken care of somehow?

All I have knowlege of is that the MRI results show no damage and its not preventing him from running routes full speed, or near full speed, after practice.

I'm also fairly confident that after nearly 3 weeks of camp and two-a-days he's probably not the only player on the team who is suffering from a hammy that's not 100%.

I won't lie and say I am pleased, but once again the knee jerk reactions are in full effect.

"Soon" means "now".

Spagnola's observation of him "running at full speed" is gospel.

And Owens is just out to be a selfish cancer once again.

When I see and hear about something truly dramatic, I will worry in earnest.

Until then, I think there is plenty of panic and vitriolics to go around.

Steve knows his offense. Steve has played with his Qb. I've seen no agility drills reports form Oxnard. Next.

Again.....Don't care about preseason games. E is for EFFORT.
