DMN Blog: Owens missing practice again

Cancer? Not really.

Primadonna? Clearly.

And this is surprising?

We knew this going in and it was a tradeoff. For all we know, he just might not want to participate in two-a-days.

Like I said, I would go into the season preparing as though he's not going to play any this year ... for whatever reason. A 33 year old player who refuses to go out on the field with a muscle tweak? Anything you get out of him is gravy. I suspect that's why the Parcells is hedging his bets by looking for a WR who can be more than a camp body.

I won't lie and say I am pleased, but once again the knee jerk reactions are in full effect.

"Soon" means "now".

Spagnola's observation of him "running at full speed" is gospel.

And Owens is just out to be a selfish cancer once again.

When I see and hear about something truly dramatic, I will worry in earnest.

Until then, I think there is plenty of panic and vitriolics to go around.

so this is what it's like to agree with alexander, huh? : )

i hate TO with the white hot passion of a thousand dying suns and yet i refuse to rush off to judge him more harshly just because some people want to. i will try at this point to judge him no better and no worse than any other player and i refuse to let the TO hype be the equivelent of a UFO in that if one person sees something, everyone else must be part of the judgementfest and they see a BAD TO also, even though if it were ANYONE ELSE they'd not raise an eyebrow.

Yes, because aggravation gives your body warnings before it actually happens. So if a player knows his body well, aggravating any kind of injury is impossible. Hilarious.

Congratulations Einstein. Ding, Ding,Ding. We have a winner.

PSSST.....they actually call it RE-AGGRAVATING. Just a little FYI for ya.
Impossible.........:laugh1:......:laugh2:

I hope we revisit this thread after TO's 1st preseason game.

Anyone remember what he did to the Patriots defense in the SuperBowl coming off a serious injury?

How abou the what he did to the Ravens in his 1st preseason game with the Eagles?

:)

I would, too. And that is one reason we *might* just be looking for more than a warm body at WR.

If it were me, I'd trade even a decent player or two for a WR who could fill in and actually be productive. Still not a star, but a guy who can play rather than a camp scrub.

I hate to say it, but right now Owens knows he has all the leverage here. I'd love us to get a decent player who can step in so Bill can make more than empty threats about not playing him.

Edit, just for the record, I posted this before I saw your last part about Bill hedging his bets. :)

And we were likely to do this with or without the Terrell Owens Drama parade.

I don't think anyone is questioning TO's talent. He has it in spades and is a massive force on the fields.

The problem is that guys like Aikman and Irvin was so great together because they worked together in practice and they could do it blindfolded practically. The point is that Owens, regardless of whether or not it's on purpose or not, is hurting the teams progress by not practicing. honestly, it's all about getting the timing down and getting familiar with your teammates tendencies.

TO is a talented receiver, but he really must have some mental issues. He has to know that this is in fact his last stop in the NFL. Not practicing, and dragging out this rehab of his tweaked hammy does not make logical sense.

I was onboard with TO taking his time and making sure he was healthy. The memories of Hennery rushing back from his hamstring injury too soon last year is still fresh in my head. However, the cameras and reporters have all seen TO running the routes at full speed now. It just looks like he is trying to avoid the two a day practices at this point. I would say that is selfish, but I would soon be anointed “Captain Obvious”.

The two a days end next week and that is when we will see TO return to practice.

Didn't TO write in his book about a recurring groin injury, rationalizing that he works out so hard in the offseason that he shouldn't be pushed so hard in training camp?

IF TO has a "phantom" injury, I think that is a fairly common practice among NFL vets. Sure, it chafes all of us who have to work every day for a much lower wage (though I'll admit to taking a sick day here and there for phantom illnesses). I honestly think he'll be back once the two-a-days are over.

If he is really hurt, then there is obviously no reason to rush him out there.

Finally, I'll add that if the press weren't continually asking about it, I doubt anyone would be very worked up. Part of the reason some fans are so upset is that it gives the media and opposing fans a way to dig at them. If TO starts week 1 and produces in his typical fashion, no one will talk about this incident until he does it again next TC.

I personally think T.O. would have been back at practice already had not all the fuss been raised.

I also think that the way Jerry handled on Saturday night is the wrong way to handle things with T.O.

When they got T.O. they knew what they were getting and they should have gone out and hired a pshycologist and figured out how to handle a guy like him and how not too. I don't think you take the back door approach with T.O. and I believe that most here did not think BP would take that approach either but it seems he may be by saying stuff to the media to get to T.O. Wrong approach IMO

Now, it is going to be a battle of wills, and we know T.O. is very strong willed. Reminds me of classic rebellious teenagers who do the opposite of what you tell them to do.

Now, at this point he will get back to practice when HE feels like it, not because he was TOLD to do it.

One word = OVERREACTION

Its happening now and it would have happened in the future if we forced TO to practice if he cant and eventually was lost for season

it is only practice and he is missing it for different reasons that Iverson was

This is getting quite amusing.

The season is barely one week into preseason.

We are now reserved to writing Owens off for the year, wishing for "gravy" and trading for another high-priced WR .

Okay, I'll play.

Push Owens aside. He's "gravy".

What next?

Best post in this whole thread.

Much to Much is being made of this. Sure everyone wants to see T.O. out there. But being ready for Jacksonville is the MOST IMPORTANT thing.

I have no doubts he will be ready. T.O. is not a rookie trying to find his way in this league. He is a legitimate Playmaker who just may be the best receiver in the NFL. How much time do you actually think ne needs? Not much.

Even Bledsoe himself said all he needs is about 2 weeks before the season starts to be ready to go and have his timing down with his receivers.

If this was any other STAR player in the NFL taking his time to come back and make sure he is 100% in Pre-Season and Training Camp no one would care.

Make to mistake T.O. wants to let the whole world know he is the best, and no question he wants to rip the NFL up this year.

Week 1 he will be ready, no question. So just relax folks. This is really not that big of a deal.

It has just become one because it is T.O.

I don't think he does know this. In his little mind, he's always gotten what he wanted.

He wanted out of San Fran and got it.

He wanted to go to Philly instead of Baltimore and he got it.

He wanted to get more money at Philly and now he's got it.

Just like on his little rap video about "To those who said I wouldn't get my money, now I got (whatever amount of money), ha ha, that's funny."

Did you catch on one of his recent interviews (who can keep up with them all?) where he was asked if Dallas was his last stop, and he said, "I can't say that."?

Sorness should not be keeping him out of practice for over a week either. We are not talking about a pull or tear all test showed that as negitive. We have others who have sorness as well but they have their cans on the field working. Glenn gets ripped by BP yesterday for missing but little TO can't deal with some sorness? He needs to get his butt on the field .

Hey its preseason. Get it healed up before he comes back....

This is getting so old. I'm doing my best to shut up and not make a big deal about it, but dang this is ridiculous. It's the daily big news item.

Why would he say Dallas is his last stop? Nobody knows if it will be, including him. He might have 3 stellar years here, then move onto a different team... we might want to release him after year 1 or year 2... who knows? Nothing wrong with that statement IMO.

That has got to be the funniest thing I've read all week.:lmao:
Hey, let's just have the team meet up at Jacksonville and we'll go from there.
