Roy Williams says all the right things; He's the anti-TO (at least off the field)

The forgotten Cowboys wide receiver was on Sirius XM radio this morning.

The question: "You've got to be thrilled for you team but you're a human being that wants to compete, wants to contribute. When you were leaving the stadium Sunday, were you conflicted at all or did you just say, 'Listen, it can't be about me. It's got to be about us?'"

Williams' answer: "Someone asked me a couple of weeks ago, 'What's my favorite season of all time?' And I said, 'It's this one.' The reason being is because I've always been the man from Pop Warner to the NFL.

"And this year, I've always said, 'God, just give me a chance. Take all my balls and my yards away and just, you know, get me to a Super Bowl.' And for some reason this year things have just gone south for me. And I'm a guy that works my butt off all offseason...But we're in the playoffs and we have a chance to go to the Super Bowl that I've been begging for. So I'll trade in all my individual stats and everything just to be in the playoffs. I could still be in Detroit and be 2-14 and I would just probably now be landing in Texas as we speak."

Williams on Miles Austin:

"Miles is a guy that when I first got here I said, 'Oh, you know, he's fast. He's fast, he's pretty good.' He [was] inconsistent with his hands as far as when I first got here, last year in training camp. And then all of a sudden I go down with the rib [injury] and he gets his chance to show what he can do and the guy got 250 yards in the game. And from that point on he just kind of rode with that momentum and he's become one of the best wide receivers in the game. And I don't want anybody - somebody told me that Troy Aikman said I was jealous of Miles because he made it to the Pro Bowl and I didn't. I could care less about who makes it to the Pro Bowl or who does what. I know talent when I see it. Miles is an extreme talent, don't know where we would be without him, big-time playmaker. I'm more happy for him than anybody else on this football team."

Williams on Tony Romo:

"I had a short slant against the Saints and I dropped it. It was a contested catch. Then I had one in Washington [when] I'm trying to run without the ball. You're never going to catch those. So his confidence left me and I think the offensive coordinator's confidence left me as well. So my thing was last week just gain the confidence of both of those guys. But Romo's had a heck of a run this December. I know everybody's talked about him in December. He's only thrown two picks. One was off the top of my head and the other one was last Sunday, you know, a fluke deal where the ball just popped up and somebody caught it. So in my eyes had hasn't had any interceptions but he's just played tremendously well."

For weeks I have tried to avoid threads about Roy even though I would love to speak my mind. This time I am. You cannot put a price on a team first player. He is respected by the entire team even if the fans and media don't. His QB loves him (I do think he lacks some confidence in him and it is Roy's fault and he acknowledges it). On Crayton's TD he played a role of drawing the defender out of the Zone. He blocks. I am sorry to all of hsi many detractors, but these things matter. He contributes to our wins. I would love to see the stats too, but I want the wins.

All the right things.

I do think it's comical that he's kind of claiming he lost his ability to catch the ball during negotiations with the almighty, like he's a modern day Jepthah and the lord is open to bartering, lol.

"OK, Roy, you've got a deal, I'll give you a chance at a super bowl. But since I always require sacrifice, there are no free rides after all - I'm going to turn you into Freddie Mitchell."

I want Roy to succeed so bad.

It would make the Cowboys the team to beat in these playoffs.

Say what you want about Roy but the class that this young man has shown during a tough season of drops and doubts and being able to continue to work and put the team first knowing that the expectations are high on his part is way more then I can say about T.O. and I loved TO. but honestly if it was up to me to pick between the two even after seing RW season this year I would still pick him without batting a eye

I am confused because he wasn't a concern for the iggles. Sheldon almost pulled a hamstring on Romo's shoulder fake, lol.

I have a feeling that Roy is going to make a play or two that gets this team where we all want it to go.

I agree, great answers to the questions.

Yeah, but I think he hurt himself because it took him a while to go from "Romo just throws the ball better to everyone else" to "I'm doing something wrong here."

Hope he takes this feeling into the offseason and gets to the root of his problems. As I've said before, I didn't like the deal but I still think he is a much better receiver than he has shown us.

A shoulder fake like he was going to throw underneath to Roy. That drew Sheldon up and thus allowed Crayton to be wide open underneath.

Do you really think Brown would have went for a shoulder fake if there were no receiver running a pattern in the area underneath for him to believe that Romo might throw it there?

And these answers are exactly why I want so bad for Roy to succeed in a big time way for Dallas. The guy just has the perfect attitude and I want so bad for him to get the glory that goes with making loads of plays for a team while having that attitude.

Keep at it Roy. It's going to come. I believe that.

Who was the shoulder fake to though? Roy Williams on an underneath route in the zone. You know as well as I do that selling the route is doing your job. Roy sold the route, Romo faked the throw, Brown bit on the fake, Crayton scored.

Sheldon Brown is just not a smart football player then. The postgame show was making fun of that play. They basically said, "How funny was it when Sheldon Brown actually thought Romo was going to throw the ball to Roy Williams?" Romo made a pre-snap read, and he knew he was going to Crayton from the very start. So I guess good job Roy? :D

So you are saying Romo would never throw that ball to a wide open Roy Williams and Sheldon Brown should have been covering Crayton 1 on 1?

Yeah, that's brilliant. Purely myopic, but brilliant.
