That Parcells is overrated, certainly his on the field contributions to the Cowboys. I guess yours is that Jerry Jones is Satan.

Same diff.

So what did the TE's have to do with anything? He only drafted three while he was here, one is a Pro Bowler and the other two are still in the league.

Ahhhh, but can J Johnson win a Super Bowl without JJ? I still remember that Jax vs. Miami playoff game . . . . that was brutal.

Maybe JJ is Jimmy's ying and Jimmy is JJ's yang? It's like Batman and Robin, Catwoman and her whip. errr . . . . you get the drift.

Jimmy certainly didn't need Jerry's input on personnel or coaching to win when he was in Dallas.

And, do you really think the missing piece for Jimmy in Miami was not having Jerry there? :laugh2:

Look, you seem to be a bit myopic, missing the gist of my post to laser in one supporting line. But I'll play along, Parcells pet position was TE, he signed / drafted TEs every season, to the detriment of other positions (e.g. OL & WR). Fasano was a bust in Dallas, I could care less where he ended up afterwards. Same for Sean "I'm still in the league" Ryan. Notice both guys are on Parcells' influenced teams?

Getting back to point, other than Witten, how many of the other umpteenth TEs that Parcells & Ireland draft turn out?

I thought you were "getting back to point", now you claim it was just one supporting line.

So you want to "play along" to something you asked and something you said was "geting back to point"? Well alright then.

And as you can also see above you inquired about the "umpteenth TEs that Parcells & Ireland" drafted. I didn't realize three in over the course of four years was considered "umpteenth". And to answer your question, it looks like they turned out just fine.
One is a Pro Bowler.
Another is a starter in Miami and the only reason he's in Miami is because we traded him. I certainly wouldn't call him a bust while he was in Dallas. And the final one was only a 5th round pick, so the fact he's still in the league should actually mean something.

but wasn't it jimmy who the year before said miami was talented enough to win it all?

how come he didn't?

no one is saying jones was the missing piece there, only that it's not all johnson or he'd have done it again. this just kinda illustrates it a team that comes together as a team and people put too much stock on individual performance or preference.

Thanks for the correction, seriously. :D

Hey, I'll even retract my disdain for Parcells' TE fetish. The fact that we netted Witten is reason enough to be thankful. But getting back to my support of dadymat's post, Bill gets a lot of credit for assembling talent, but not enough blame for his misses_any misses are always credited to Jerry.

Here was my original response_feel free to remove the TE line. I have bolded my point, which even I forgot in this exchange.

Very succinct. In fact, Bills greatest contribution IMO was not even on the field, but in bringing back a focus to the organization. Bill helped Jerry realize that the team needed a clear gameplan regarding player acquisition and scheme development. It was actually after Bill left, that this vision became apparent_aggressive vertical passing game/power running (Garrett) & aggressive attacking 3-4 (Wade).

Actually Bill also did Jerry a favor by taking all his "guys" w/him to Miami. Otherwise, Jerry probably does not promote Ciskowski. I don't know about anyone else, but I take Ciskowski (a Jimmy guy) over Ireland & Bill every frikkin time. Ireland & Bill could not draft an OL to save their life. Thank God they hit on Witten (barely) otherwise they would have completely sucked w/their favorite position group too, TEs.

Now Dallas drafts & acquires "football players" instead of Bill's "guys". HUGE improvement.

You think Fasano was a bust in Dallas??? I hated that they got rid of him. Fasano seemed to always deliver/play well, they just didn't use him enough.
