The thing is, Romo had almost no time in the pocket that entire drive. Our pass-blocking was horrendous down the stretch.

And considering Romo's "street-ball" style, it's not surprising that Crayton would think about possibly improvising on his own to become a better target for a scrambling, out-of-the-pocket Romo.

Unfortunately, the protection was adequate on the play, and Romo did see Crayton get past the CB.

It's still Pat's fault, but I don't think it was as simple as him randomly deciding to "give up" on a play/route.

And I personally think that may have had something to do with it but im not even going to try and defend him because everyone freaking hates him so much.

Its not like we're talking about a guy who doesnt care.

I dont worry about Patrick Crayton on Sundays. He'll be fine.

Hesitating on a route, is still imo: giving up on the route. If he runs it as he is suppose to and how Romo expected it would have been a td.

I respectfully disagree. I, too, had read that Crayton had made a "coverage read" and the hesitation over whether or not Romo had recognized it or not had an effect on the play. A mere hiccup will affect the play on the NFL level.

I wasn't happy with Crayton after that game either. However, I think the whole thing has been blown WAY out of proportion. How many plays did Crayton MAKE by making those same type of reads last season? The guy doesn't find holes in the coverage by mistake. In fact, we all ought to be damn glad that Crayton has developed in to the player that he has. Without him, last year, who on this team was going to step up and duplicate the production Crayton had last year? Hurd? Sure if the opposing DB is a turtle. Austin? You think you hated Crayton's drop? Now multiply it by 20.

Do I think that Crayton can improve his game? Sure. So can Romo, and Barber, and Adams, and so on and so on. But I also think that the demonization of Crayton is a little overboard.

Crayton will learn from the experience and be a better player for it (I honestly believe that). Now if we can just get him to shut his ******* mouth.

Crayton's career in Dallas has already peaked and there's no where to go but down from this point - a spiral that is going to be hastened by his debacle in the Giant game...listen very closely to the boo birds in the stadium and living rooms when he drops a pass....Crayton has neither the talent or personality to be more than what he was: a decent #3 receiver. When the expectations were low Crayton looked good but when prime time came he choked after running his mouth all season. Take your pick; he choked an easy pass helen keller could have caught for a 1st down (or td), gave up on his assigned route (for whatever reason) when romo put the ball right there for a possible td, or ran his mouth before big games giving the opposition bulletin board material. Or all of the above.

I love Crayton's mouth... Crayton was talking smack all year long against the Giants. He showed up the two games they won. He'll be fine....

I don't think about it unless we talk Superbowl, or Playoffs.

I can't even play Madden without thinking about it.. I just stick to COD4, and GTA4.

It took me a while to get on Madden to. I've been on MLB2K8

I forgive Crayton...

You know I like His confidence...He can make plays. I'm not going to hold a grudge on Him.

If it helps eliminate his trash talking to the media, then I'm all for it.
I hear that. Crayton's mouth always bugged me. Especially AFTER a win he'd talk crap.

I can forgive the drop, but I can't forgive his giving up on that route in the end zone. Romo laid the ball perfectly where he should have been. Crayton will have to do some spectacular things to make me get over that one.

In Crayton's defense, I remember Michael Irvin saying that he did not consider that Crayton gave up on that route and that those types of plays where both the QB and WR have to read and react perfectly don't click as often as people would like them to.

I believe Crayton would not be catching this much crap if it were not for his mouth. You gotta back it up. Other than that I think he is a good #3.

Trash talkers don't have the intelligence to realize how stupid they look when they lose after running their mouth so loud. I never lost a game or an event to a trash talker. In reality trash talking comes from disrespectful losers trying to cover up their inadequacies and true champions see right through it and are motivated to beat them. Granted sometimes trash talkers are on the winning team but the win is seldom due to what the trash talkers do but usually it's their teammates who do the winning.

True champions respect their opponents, disrespectful fools don't.

I love Michael. He is going to defend his teammates. Always. But Crayton gave up on that route. You are taught to finish your route. It's fine to look back and see what your QB is doing. You may need to modify or break off the route and go somewhere else. But you don't stop.

I'm sure he will remember this and take it to his grave. What if. It's time to move on and see what he'll do this year. I doubt he makes that mistake again. I want Crayton to do well. If Glenn doesn't make it back all the way we are going to really need this guy.

Come out like a man on a mission. I would take Crayton with just 20% of TO's animal.

They talked about that he changed his route and he was not sure if Romo read the same thing he hesitated so did he give up or was it something else ?

It doesnt matter. Run to the open space. Romo could have floated a lob pass within a 5 yard radius and Crayton would have been in position to just snatch it out of the air. But he shortchanged himself by not even being there.

Its over and done. :banghead:

I'd ask him why he slowed up on the second to last play of the game when he would have had a TD hit him in stride and we would have won the game. It was 2 plays that Crayton screwed us with in that game.

Asked if he still thinks about it, he said, "Probably about twice a week, out at the complex. You know, we throw twice a week. Every time we do that, it pops in my head."

This is not neccesarily good. Hopefully it motivates him but it could also create flashbacks and kill his confidence.

I'm going to be it's motivating him and making him strive to be that much better.
