I don't disagree with that but we are talking 1 year with Wade and pretty much a different staff and I think what they did in their 1st season in Dallas was very promising and gives reason for many around the NFL to think Dallas is the favorite to win it all this year. I don't think Wade though should take any blame beyond last year but it seems he is has been raked over the coals for past failure before he got here.

Part of being a head coach is being ultimately responsible for what the team does - or doesn't - do.

The prior December fades that happened under Parcells aren't Wade's fault, but last year's fade is. It's his job to turn a trend like that around, not to add to it.

And hearing him make excuses or try to minimize it hurts his case rather than helping it.

I doubt Jerry wants to hear about the glass being "half full" any longer.

Overall, last year was a good start for the Phillips/Garrett combination but the team needs to take that next step (in addition to the one they should have taken last year) and win in the playoffs.

Wade on the Hot Seat

Wade Phillips won 13 games, had a league-record 13 Pro Bowlers, improved a defense, and brought a calmer attitude to Valley Ranch.

Yet, he's on the Hot Seat.
Well, according to The Sporting News he is.

The reality is every NFL coach is on the Hot Seat. But, with Jason Garrett looming, it makes for some interesting theater this season.

Say the Cowboys win a playoff game and reach the NFC championship game. Better yet for you Cowboys' fans, reach the Super Bowl down in Tampa.

Does Wade get to stay?
Of course he does.

But what happens if he loses in the NFC title game? Or wins a wild card game only to lose in the divisional round?
Does Wade stay then?

if i was a coach or a player i would hate the media seriously id be on the news for hitting one of the reporters in the face and getting suspended by goodell

I agree and I'm not making any excuses just not going to blame Wade for things that happened prior to him coming to Dallas. We came up short in his 1st year with a new staff in place but this team did make some big strides last season enough so that many who cover the NFL think Dallas is the team to beat. To overlook the improvements this team made is pretty short sighted.

My expectation like most around here is for Dallas to make it all the way and a big reason for that is because we know what this team can do when they play up to their abilities and I think the players reached a higher level due to Wade and his coaching staff. I guess in the end I'm on Wade and the staff side and think they are good enough to get the job done

So, what other coaches are we firing once they don't win the Superbowl?

Let's hear it. Belichick? He went 16-0 last year and added a top ten overall pick -- he should go if they don't win.

Coughlin? They won last year and still have their young QB, so they should win, too.

San Diego? They almost did it with their QB on one leg and maybe the best player in the league on the sidelines. If they're healthy and don't win it all, Norv should be canned, too. No excuses.

Or are we that much more talented than EVERY other team in the National Football League? Does anyone really believe that?

I have to jump into this thread again, your cowboys are so overrrated..your defense isnt nowhere near as good as you guys think it is,you claim you have so much talent but can't show up at home for a playoff game..your offense is predicated more on romo's ability to avoid a rush to buy more time for your recievers to get open, you have no run game that any team respects..Yall are in for another big letdown..AND i am not trolling im giving you how i see it!!

Not to mention too that the Chargers finished with an 8 game win streak(before losing to NE) under NORV TURNER! NORV FREAKIN' TURNER somehow got that team finishing strong AND competitive in the playoffs.

This is the same story every year-other teams with more glaring weaknesses that us are finding ways to get the job done, but we can't.

I would counter:

Do any of the aforementioned teams have a $3 million a year head coach-in-waiting who is in demand by the rest of the league?

Did any of the above teams stumble though December and get bounced out in the first round of the playoffs?

Do any of the above teams have a 10+ year playoff drought?

I would say the answer to all of these questions is no, so I think that the circumstances are markedly different.

I take it you didn't watch the playoff game then, where we had time-consuming drives with MB3 having a near-career day.

Actually-Garrett's downfall in this game was NOT EXPLOITING the Giants' depleted secondary. No Sam Madison, then Aaron Ross goes down, and he STILL couldn't do jack.(alot like last year when we failed to exploit Seattle's depleted secondary, instead relying on a conservative, run-oriented game plan)
how is Romo going to take advantadge of the Giants secondary from his back? The pass rush of the Giants gave every team in the playoffs fits. And again, if you read my earlier post....our offensive weapons at WR are either old/inexperienced....we don't invest on that side of the ball via the draft like we do on defense. We refused to take a WR or OL in the 1st two rounds of the past couple of years...yet in that same time span via the 2nd round we have 2 TEs (Fasano and Bennet)...and they did/will always back up Jason Witten. The biggest investment on this team is defense...and until they start dominating teams...we will not reach our potential. Do I need to remind yo what the Gaints defense did to the Pats offense...that was just down right impressive. On top of what the did to us and the Packers in the playoffs. Defense is going to be the deciding factor.

You forgot a few things:

1. Norv Turner was AJ Smith's "puppet" coach.

2. Ted Cottrell, who already filed his RETIREMENT PAPERS with the league, was handpicked by AJ.

3. Yes-you forgot to mention the Chargers had a BIGGER playoff drought than us going into the postseason.

Just saying...

Stash, one and three have nothing to do with Wade, so they are irrelevant.

And if you'd penalize a guy for losing the first round of the playoffs in his very first year... Then I'm thinking you have some kind of bias against the coach.

Once again, Mike McCarthy did almost exactly what Wade did -- Did you see that game at Chicago? That playoff loss at home to the Giants? -- but he's not on any hot seat. Instead, he got Coach of the Year consideration.

That's b/c the WR classes in recent years have been AWEFUL, AWEFUL.

Who did you want? DeSean "Big Mouth Midget" Jackson? Limas "I'm not really 6'4" Sweed? Malcolm "I can do as I want, as I feel" Kelly?

As they have to do with the Cowboys, they're entirely relevant. Maybe not fair, but certainly relevant.

Don't confuse the issue with fairness. It's not fair at all. But it's accurate.

And McCarthy helped to build the team he's currently coaching too. Wade inherited a talented team that Bill Parcells built. That gets factored in too.

Thank you...

This franchise hasn't won a playoff game in a decade, yet if this coach doesn't win the Superbowl in his second year, he should be fired? How does that make sense?

Yes, we have a lot of talent, but guess what, so do a lot of other teams. It's the NFL. You can't just say that if you don't win it all in any one particular year, heads should roll. That's crazy.

I think people are getting way too carried away this offseason. It's like everyone is working themselves up into a frenzy from a lot of positive media reports. But, lots of people claim our team has no leaders, no guts, are chokers, etc.... While on the other hand expecting this year us to beat teams with a lot more playoff winning experience. And if we don't, heads should roll. That contradiction just doesn't add up.

I want to know what happens to the team when Garrett takes over. Who runs the defense? Who does a lot of the nuts and bolts work on offense while Garrett oversees the team? Everyone is assuming he'll be a guaranteed upgrade, and why? Because he went to Princeton? Because he backed up Aikman and won a game for us on Thanksgiving? Why?

And most of all, who is the trump card for everyone to look to after Garrett? Who's the next boy genius?

My opinion is that we'd better win it all the next couple of years, because I bet we go downhill once Garrett takes over. Just my prediction.

couldnt have said it better.I dont buy the hype surrounding Garrett. He is good but by no means is he a genius. He is a work in progress an I felt that teams (especially the rest of NFC east )figured him out and he didnt adapt fast enough.lets see how he performs this year.
