DMN Blog: Would you rather have Tony Romo or Jay Cutler?

Why is this even a question? Cutler has never had the sort of production Tony does. Despite putting up a ton of yardage, his QB rating actually regressed this year, because of all the INTs and lower YPA.

In a few more years, Cutler might become as good as Tony, but that's far from a guarantee. But even then, the goal is for him to as productive as Tony. The idea that he'll every surpass him is pretty far-fetched.

Anyone that says Cutler is better either doesn't know what they're talking about (high likely) or is just saying it in a half-***** attempt to be a non-homer.

Imagine the numbers Romo would put up if he ever attempted 616 passes and was sacked only 11 times in a season, like Cutler was this season.

If he threw only 25 TDs, with 18 interceptions, like Cutler did, that would be disappointing.
Just to see those numbers played out -- if Romo had kept at his current pace and had as many pass attempts as Cutler, he would have had 194 more yards (4720 total yards) and 10 more TDs (35 total touchdowns).

And as you point out, that's not even taking into account the sack ratio. Romo was sacked once every 22.5 passes and Culter was sacked once every 56 passes. And we all know Romo is one of the best in the league at avoiding sacks, so that tells you a good bit about how much better their line was playing than ours. So, whoever said Romo is playing with a better supporting cast, that's baloney in terms of '08. I'd give their O-line performance for our WRs any day.

Romo has a hotter GF........actually I've never seen Cutlers GF, so I'm just making an assumption.
Yea, I think thats pretty safe :laugh2:

Would you rather have Brandon Marshall, Brandon Stokely, Eddie Royal, and Tony Scheffler.

Or.

Terrell Owens, Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, and Jason Witten.

How many ints and fumbles would Romo have had as well? Since we're projecting.

His INTs wouldn't have changed such that his QB rating would change. A down year for an injury-riddled Tony Romo is a 91 QB rating. Cutler hasn't even broken 90 for a season.

I'd take Cutler based on attitude and leadership. I love how he called out Brandon Marshall this past off-season.

Romo seems to be lacking in the leadership dept.

Cutler's physical tools are better, but Romo has him with intangibles. I saw Cutler get rattled a ton this season, and defenses weren't even pressuring him. So I'd still take Romo, even with the understanding that Cutler has the higher ceiling of the two.
Exactly. Cutler isnt clutch. For all the talk about Romo folding in the big moments of the big games, Cutler gets shaky when the game is on the line and starts to force things that arent there.

Ill take Romo at the 2:00 warnings. Cutler the other 56 minutes.

Interesting...has a team ever run the hurry up the entire game? Maybe that is the solution. Seriously, the Bills used to run the K Gun a lot back in the day.

Cutler and its not even close.

Cutler can make all the throws .. Tony can not.

I've never seen Cutler underthrow anyone. Tony does all the time.

Cutler is younger and has more upside.

If you cant see that you are a homer that can not see reality when it hits you in the face.

Or both.

Would I be a weasel if I said Romo today and Cutler long-term?

You would think Philip Rivers the way they go back and forth against one another.
As Nazareth once sang...Love hurts.
