Before I say too much I want to watch the film first. One thing does remain constant; penalties will cost you football games.

No it's not time to hit the panic button it is time to hit the eye-opening button; 34 penalties in the last three games. Also you have to note in every 100 yards of offense a team should score 7 points. The same goes with penalties for every 100 yards in penalties, you can expect a team to score 7 points.

If we want to win we have to A. stop the penalties of and B. score 50 points per game. Here is what makes matters worse I would guess more than half are non aggressive penalties (before or after the play).

What ever the reason guys have to get it together. We can blame the coach be it when Parcells was here or now with Wade but the responsiblity ends with the player on the field. Coaches can harp all day on penalties but it really comes down to the player.

Someone should email Burnett and mock him for thinking the sky is falling.

Doesn't he understand this is only preseason?

That'll really shut up the pro-more-penalties crowd.

To an extent, but if you don't have a coach that preaches mistake-free play in practice, you get this type of result.

Wade's care-free, easy-going, wants-to-be-everybody's-best-friend attitude is starting to wear thin on me. I was at the game, and the thing that was even more disturbing than the penalties was all the chatter and excuse-making directly afterwards.

This team certainly got an "A" when it came to talking back to the refs. And then I've got to read all this crap from Crayton about how the refs were unfair...and the majority of people on this board agreeing with it? Life is unfair, and sometimes penalties go your way and sometimes they don't -- but using that as a reason for the god-awful play I witnessed is unacceptable. I saw the Broncos get nailed for like three penalties in a row and then I saw a Dallas pass defense give up a first down on a long pass.

I was there. Trust me, it wasn't penalties that lost that game, it was the incredibly ****ty, unmotivated play of our team. Know that.

But again, preseason is worthless as far as I'm concerned, but if this type of talk and excuse-making carries over into the regular season, we've got problems.

A coach can harp on it all day long and parcells did (with no better results) but the player is the one playing and he is the one who controls what he does. A coach clearly can pull a guy for doing it but with FA and the cap the depth drop off is much greater than years past. No doubt in my mind that Wade and the assistance get after the players about these penalties.

I do agree that this past game was more than penalties the team just looked flat.

Sure, but again, it was more about the excuse-making and talking back at the refs that was more disturbing, not to mention this little gem I've been reading from Crayton. To me, that tends to be a reflection of the head coach and trust me, he was leading the charge in these areas Saturday night. Think about it, Jerry Glanville was the type of guy that loved watching his players get into fights and was less concerned about penalties than most. Guess what? His players got into a lot of fights and committed a bunch of dumb penalties.

Then you've got Wade "the better team lost out there" Phillips and I'm sorry, but this team is starting to reflect his personality, which is a decidedly bad thing.

Disagree. This team was making stupid penalties under a hard ars like Parcells sooner or later the player has to step up and take responsiblity god knows they are gettin paid the big bucks and they know damn well the rules of the game. I'm not saying the Coaches do not have any control but other than benching a guy there is not a lot they can do other than continue to get on the player when they make a penalty and they do. I do not think Wade Phillips is the problem with this team and under him they frankly played the best football they have in several years so if you want to come down on him for mistake than at least give credit where it is due.

Like others have stated... Parcells was the biggest stiggler on penalties ever and the guys still got penalised.

Its not a coach problem its a player problem.

Disagree, last year, the team still had the residue of Parcells' attitude and personality but played in a better system, both offensively and especially defensively. But in year two, that residue wears off and the team takes on more of the current head coach's personality.

Seriously, how many times do I have to state it? It's not the penalties, it's the team's reaction to them. I mean, are you kidding me with this smack from Crayton? Just say what really happened -- the team played like **** and move on.

Oh BS it is easy to see the agenda you have. Any positives that is someone else any negitive well that is Wade Phillips. Frankly I doubt Owens and Parcells would have lasted much longer together with the "Player" comments that was really getting under Owen skin. Under Wade he is showing respect to his player and his players are showing respect to him. There are many ways to coach and not all successful coaches are hardnosed coaches. These guys went out and played very well under Phillips in his 1st year you may want to give him a chance now instead of eating crow later.

Oh, I see. Anytime I make a single negative observation about the team, it's because of an "agenda." God, you are such a homer and excuse-maker.

You'd fit right into Phillips' system. Here's an idea, get a clue about what I've said. I said, if it continues into the regular season because I also said, the preseason is worthless. I also pointed out several times last week that generally speaking, talent wins out and we have all of ours returning from a team that went 13-3. But you're too blind in your homerism to actually pay attention to any of that, aren't you? Get your head out of your ***, boy. I'm simply making an observation about the team's attitude this preseason so far.

I'm going to guess that your one of the guys who sees Crayton's B.S. as a good thing? Jesus.

Not making excuses but this is Phillips 1st year as HC and under him the team did show improvement if you can't see that then what is one to think other than the fact you do have a set agenda aginst Phillips. Most level headed people would at least give a HC any HC 2 to 3 years to prove himself. I have been watching the Cowboys for over 40 some odd year and even under Landry and Johnson this team at time would come out flat in a pre-season game, hell there were times they came out flat in reg season games. I believe in giving the HC a chance no matter who that HC may be and yet after 1 season you want to whine and complain? Give me a break

I agree. It was disappointing to see the team come out flat this past game but it is a pre-season game nothing to get worked up about. No doubt this team needs to cut down on penalties and even in the Denver game the 2 TD drives by Denver was assisted by penalties that gave them 1st down.
