I'm not even talking about that
I know. I was using "logic" to dispute your claim.

Sure I remember his injury. And from all accounts he is back to what he was before it, or will be with another offseason to get better. You are over rating Fabini for some reason. Why don't you check into Fabini a little more. If you dare.
Check into him? I watched every play this season and preseason. You're overrating Colombo. Your entire opinion is based on Colombo starting over Fabini. Watch the games. It'll do wonders for your ability to discuss the players.

 that doesn't dispute the fact that Al Johnson was better prepared mentally to play, and that's why he started

I think theo is saying that Fabini starting wouldn't be the end of the world, that's his main point

I think
Correctamundo.

As for McQ, I'd prefer seeing him play in the game more before I make an educated guess on him.

Fabini/McQ/3rd rounder >>> Colombo + long term, big money deal.

Basically, if we're going to lock someone up for a huge long term deal, I want them to have more upside than Colombo. It really all depends. If he wants a Gurode-type deal, then I'd prefer Colombo. But if he wants 8+ million per year, he can forget it.

btw, I think it's mutual between Dallas and Columbo and his agent, since they're at an impasse, that he test the market, and whatever contract he receives, he'll show it to Dallas, and Dallas will then decide whether to match it, or let him walk

as I never got to give my 2 cents on the original idea of the thread :)

Well my main point is......it may not be the end of the world but it would the next thing too it.

and as I said earlier.....you better sign 5 backup QBs....we will need all five and then some.

If jerry starts the season w/Fabini, Procter, McQ.....he should fire himself for incompetence.

couldn't you be saying that about the C position too? Al/Proctor/3rd round>>>Gurode? why don't we just spend the money to keep a quality performer in place like we did w/ Gurode?

Columbo was a former 1st round pick, how much more upside can you get? idk how I feel about him maybe getting an 8 mil a year deal though

Fabini isn't a revolving door. I'm not sure where any one got this idea. Over his career he's only given up .4 sacks per game. For a tackle that's about average or better than average.

one knock against Fabini is that his pecs may be shot

I don't think he's that player anymore, could be wrong though

Well, I was hesitant about signing Gurode, but his deal was really cheap in comparison to these other guys on the market. I've never been real big on Gurode and I don't think I will be in the future. This was his contract year and he was no better than average. I expect he'll fall off some next year and will be a big disappointment.

Right, but career-threatening injuries tend to derail someone's potential. There's a reason we picked him up off the street for dirt cheap when no other team would give him a chance.

I'm just saying, someone who's been in the system, and played well, should be rewarded for it

and both barely have any treads on their tires and are very much in their primes

I was kinda surprised that Colombo was locked up long before free agency began. I don't doubt that he can land a massive contract somewhere else...I just don't think he's worth that kinda of contract and Jerry doesn't seem to either.

Colombo doesn't owe the Cowboys

I've heard some rumblings that OT Marc Colombo should give the Cowboys a discount because they helped him salvage his career.
Sorry, but I strongly disagree.

Colombo has already more than repaid the Cowboys by starting 16 games at right tackle last season. They benefited greatly from the risk they took on him.

Perhaps for the only time in his career, Colombo has the opportunity to test the market as a valuable commodity. He'd be a fool not to see what kind of cash he could make, especially considering all the salary-cap room out there. This is a league where contracts aren't guaranteed and careers can end any time, so you can't blame Colombo for wanting to cash in while he can.

The Cowboys will probably be able to re-sign Colombo if they make a competitive offer. It's his agent's job to make sure there's a lot of competition for Colombo's services.

Yes... he DOES owe us a discount... whether or not he chooses to sign with us is another issue...

When no one else wanted him, we took a chance on him...

We deserve extra consideration... if you can't see that, YOU are an idiot...
