DMN: Cowboy blog: Colombo doesn't owe the Cowboys

People speculating on this board about him being cut isn't evidence of him almost getting cut. That's my point. There was never any evidence of being borderline. People just assumed that he was going to get cut -- in large part because of the board's obsession with Rob Petitti.

And yes I've thought of that scenario and rejected it with extreme prejudice. ;)

Nobody is saying he's going to "come to the rescue." The bottom line is that he looked as good as Colombo last year and he can bridge the gap until we get a mid-round draft pick ready. That scenario could be both cheaper and better for us in the long run than signing Colombo, without the risk of any drop off any talent.

I suppose that's extreme prejudice as well.......:)

as to cheaper and better......please.....that has about as much chance as a fish living out of water.

By the way.....you are very good at speculation as well.

Colombo doesn't owe the Cowboys

I've heard some rumblings that OT Marc Colombo should give the Cowboys a discount because they helped him salvage his career.
Sorry, but I strongly disagree.

Colombo has already more than repaid the Cowboys by starting 16 games at right tackle last season. They benefited greatly from the risk they took on him.

Perhaps for the only time in his career, Colombo has the opportunity to test the market as a valuable commodity. He'd be a fool not to see what kind of cash he could make, especially considering all the salary-cap room out there. This is a league where contracts aren't guaranteed and careers can end any time, so you can't blame Colombo for wanting to cash in while he can.

The Cowboys will probably be able to re-sign Colombo if they make a competitive offer. It's his agent's job to make sure there's a lot of competition for Colombo's services.

Very true he needs to make all the money he can

I cannot understand anyone thinking that Fabini is as good as Columbo. WHO STARTED ALL 16 GAMES THIS SEASON?

Hey, I watched the games. I watched him play. It was pretty obvious that the guy is solid. He's not a revolving door and he's not a pro bowler. That's about as much as you can say for Colombo.

As for cheaper and better? Fabini + a 3rd round pick would both be cheaper than Colombo. In the long term a 3rd round RT probably has more upside than Colombo.

Man I've been arguing that point all evening long.. Fabini was lucky to be on the team and if BP wasn't HC he may not have been...

Who started doesn't really matter. Bill could have thought it was a toss up and went with the younger guy because he has more long-term upside. Gurode was beat out in 2005 by Al Johnson. Was Al Johnson better? Just because one guy is starting doesn't mean the other guy sucks. When it's a close call, one has to play and one has to sit.

You must be talking about preseason again because he didn't play in the regular season.. He damn sure didn't play enough to say he was solid...

Columbo was a first rd draft choice. He started for the bears from the beginning of the season untill his injury. Sort of blows your so called theorey about a 3rd rd choice all out of the water, doesn't it OGT.

Again that's your opinion.....which isn't any better than mine. I also watch the games.

Fabini.....he's a good backup.

Have to laugh at you, ogt. BOTH of the guys you talked up did not start one single game this year. Yet you claim they were just as good as the starters. You are so full of it.

I guess your forgot that whole part about his career-threatening injury. My goodness you have a short memory.

But but but, Al Johnson was a backup this year so he must suck!!! Gurode must be better!!!

That's some pretty lame logic.

I'm not even talking about that

Sure I remember his injury. And from all accounts he is back to what he was before it, or will be with another offseason to get better. You are over rating Fabini for some reason. Why don't you check into Fabini a little more. If you dare.

BP played the guys he thought was going to do the best job. Remmber- FABINI was one of his guys- yet he started Columbo all 16 games. You just cannot admit that you are dead wrong here.

I think theo is saying that Fabini starting wouldn't be the end of the world, that's his main point

I think

If thats the case, I'd rather see McQ start at RT....
