The Cowboys' loss in the divisional round of the playoffs to the Green Bay Packers was heartbreaking for many, but in the NFL it's always on to the next task at hand.
And for the Cowboys that now means preparing for the offseason and the NFL draft. The loss to Green Bay means that Dallas is now the owner of the 28th selection in the first-round of the draft, which will take place April 27-29 in Philadelphia.
So who will be available at that spot for the Cowboys? There should be plenty of defensive prospects to help shore up that side of the ball if that is the direction the Cowboys choose to go.
CBS Sports writer Rob Rang has Dallas upgrading its offense taking Washington receiver John Ross. The wideout had a career year racking up 81 receptions, 17 touchdowns and 1,150 yards. In his first two years with the team he tallied just 23 receptions, five touchdowns and 579 yards...combined.
AZ Central's Bob McManaman said the Cowboys should take a different player from Washington, cornerback Sidney Jones.
"Dallas can make itself even stronger by adding a playmaking cornerback and Jones rates as a first-rounder on all fronts. He isn't there only option at corner, however, and the Cowboys may opt to look for a extra pass rusher here instead."
Fox Sports' latest mock draft had Ohio State linebacker Raekwon McMillan going 28th. The junior was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press, Walter Camp, USA Today, The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated and Fox Sports after leading the Buckeyes with tackles on the season. He is capable of getting after the quarterback and dropping back into coverage.
CBS Sports meanwhile had Missouri defensive end Charles Harris at the 28 spot in its latest mock draft. "Harris has the burst up the field to help (a defense) and has shown enough strength and savvy to slide inside to defensive tackle, as well," read CBS' scouting report on him.
Bleacher Report slotted Alabama linebacker Ryan Anderson at 28th in its mock draft. Anderson, known as a disruptive player in the pass rush, earned All-SEC honors from the AP.
The site also has the Cowboys taking Florida cornerback Teez Tabor, who had been suspended twice by the school during his career. His second suspension was for "behavior that [was] not acceptable," according to the team's head coach.
He didn't seem too broken up about the second suspension.
He addressed his behavior before the most recent college season.
"I'm me," Tabor said, according to ESPN. "I'm going to be honest. What you see is what you get. Sometimes [it gets me in trouble]. If you ain't being you ... if you ain't living for nothing, you'll die for anything. That's how I see it."
SEC Country has already done a two-round mock draft. It has Michigan State defensive lineman Malik McDowell going at 28th in the first round and Clemson cornerback Cordrea Tankersley going at the Cowboys' slot in the second round.
