DMN: Cowboys select 28th in the draft; who are some prospects that could be available?

I hate how there is absolutely no point in projecting prospects this early...

And yet, here I am.

Nothing else to do. The team you saw on Sunday will by and large be the team you see in September with the addition of another draft class. They're not going to go out and spend big in free agency.

The site also has the Cowboys taking Florida cornerback Teez Tabor, who had been suspended twice by the school during his career. His second suspension was for "behavior that [was] not acceptable," according to the team's head coach.

He didn't seem too broken up about the second suspension.

He addressed his behavior before the most recent college season.

"I'm me," Tabor said, according to ESPN. "I'm going to be honest. What you see is what you get. Sometimes [it gets me in trouble]. If you ain't being you ... if you ain't living for nothing, you'll die for anything. That's how I see it."

The strategy of taking Zeke and the luck of landing Dak has given this team a unique chance to be a serious contender the next several years.

No more injury or character risks, unless it's like a 7th round pick or UDFA. We need guys who can come in, be accountable, and contribute to this team right away.

"Right away" sounds like draft for need.

No. What I mean is as special as Jaylon Smith might be, he didn't play a down and we aren't sure yet if he'll ever be himself again.

What if we had drafted a player at 34 that could have helped out this past Sunday?

Maranelli would love this guy, he plays hard and loves football. He would make an immediate impact in my opinion.
Yep. Pair him with Tapper on the right side. Tappers run defense is currently ahead of his pass rush and Harris pass rush is ahead of his run defense. Here is to hoping he makes it to 28.

That's the type of mindset that turns into a year's worth of busted draft picks. They don't need to change their draft approach in any way. They're finally starting hit on picks and going with the "need" angle is a recipe for failure.
We all would love a draft full of defensive talent that could turn our defense top tier after a season or 2 but its not looking that promising that the options will be their.

Agreed. I said basically the same thing in a thread earlier today. If I'm sitting at 28 and a TE ranked #15 overall falls to you and you take the DE ranked as the 35th best player in the draft, you're an idiot and deserve your roster woes 3 years down the road.

The funny thing is that most of these guys proclaiming that we HAVE to go defense with every pick will be the first one's to ***** when that TE is the next Jimmy Graham and the DE that we took is the next Shante Carver. "He was RIGHT THERE and we took the DE. Jones is an idiot".

I am giving up my 1st and 2nd for this year, 1st next year and 3rd for Myles Garrett LOL

I agree, but it's hard to believe need won't intersect with value in this draft considering how deep at dline and cb it is. I am sure if a guy like Ross falls they would consider though.

Doubt need or position value will really interfere with the draft board. The fact that we took Zeke at 4th overall proves that.

People waste too much time on the BPA versus need argument. Dallas, like a lot of teams, blend it. And often their boards are built with some need in mind.

If Dallas is sitting there at 28 and the 20th ranked guy on their board is an OG and the 23rd ranked guy is a CB and the gap isn't wide between the two, they'd probably take the CB.

Now if they are at 28 and they take a DE who is 35th on their board then that's the mistake.

Absolutely you should measure need with value. But we MUST stay close to our value board regardless of our "needs".

If Leary leaves and we move Collins to RT like we should, I'd take the G.

Not if the CB is ranked right behind the OG.

I wouldn't be surprised if they sign one in FA if Leary leaves. Cooper's signing was insurance IMO.

I look at this way in order we need DE - CB - S - LB - WR -

SO I would be happy with any of these as out first pick

1 Charles Harris - Takkarist McKinley - Carl Lawson - *T.J. Watt

2 Gareon Conley - Cordrea Tankersley - Tre'Davious White - Sidney Jones

3 Desmond King

4 Zach Cunningham - Jarrad Davis

5 Corey Davis - John Ross - O.J. Howard
