I will also state that using the excuse of well the 90's cowboys did it and Irvin snorted coke and the like is a weak excuse because it does not take into account of how Irvin hurt this team with his actions. It was some years before Jerry would even take a chance on a good first round player with any issues because of Irvin and the 90's "white House". It is the very reason we took a mediocre Greg Ellis in the draft over a Way more talented player like Randy Moss.

So yes it does have repercussions on teams not only in a player missing time on the field due to league suspensions but is also hurts the teams in other ways.

That's one of those things I didn't even think about, but it's true. If you get burned enough, you'll change the way you do business and in the case of a guy like Moss, you're missing out on one of the best wide receivers to ever play the game. All because Irvin and others on those 90s teams were just flat out of control and couldn't lay off the hookers and blow.

I do agree that the situation can be overblown. There have been plenty of NFL players, including quarterbacks, who loved the nightlife. However, the spotlight shines brightest on them to show leadership in that position and Manziel is showing a lot of immaturity.

His best bet would be to stay out of the spotlight until he establishes himself as a leader and player. If he accomplishes that, no one will care much about his partying proclivities.

JF isnt changing for awhile. He will one day, but right now......who knows how long that is going to take?

I see him coming back after not being in the leaue or something, and having a Kerry Collins type career... If he gets lucky, he will land with a team that ends up in the playoffs...That is JFs ceiling..........

Moose clearly does not understand the concept of selling tickets. That is what Sir Jones wants and that is what he will get.
Moose, on the other hand, can go analyze another 2nd-tier game until further notice.

Depends on how competitive he is. If he ends up getting bounced off Cleveland's roster for a late-round (or conditional) pick to be a backup somewhere, it might be a wake-up call.

I heard on radio that JF was cut by cleveland !
So now we will find out if jerry wants him or not.
It isnt up to us it is up to cowboys to decide.

Ok I guess it was the ad agency that cut him loose lol

I still can't understand the outrage caused by a young man that enjoys the party scene. He would a normal kid if he didn't play in the NFL and he hasn't done anything as bad as the players on the 1990s teams.

Simple. He's not a leader and he has bad judgement. The QB is the Leader and the team has to follow him. He has to have impeccable judgement to be good at the hardest position in team sports. He has to be self disciplined, and has shown he has ZERO discipline, even after multiple attempts by his authority to reign him in. And this has nothing to do with the teams of the 90's. It's a different world now, especially with social media, and smart phones. Plus, did you ever see the leader of that team caught up in any issues? Uhhh, no!

If Manziel were a LB or an OL or a WR or almost any other position, then yeah. Compare the QBs, Aikman and Manziel. Aikman was exactly what you want as the leader. Manziel is exactly his opposite. The argument that he would have been a Saint on those 90s teams, losses steam if you view it in that light IMO.

Troy knew about the stuff that was happening with those teams. He was a great leader on the field, but he didn't do much to stop all the crap that was going on off the field. I will be the first to say that Johnny is not a good example for leadership off the field , but he is improving on the field. I see an immature kid that has a lot of potential as he matures. In two years, he could be a totally different player on and off the field. I don't drink, but I would sure start drinking if I was playing for the Browns. It would take a lot of alchohol to make me stay there. It is simple really, getting Johnny is a gamble , but it could solve a lot of problems at the QB position without too much of an investment .

So in a metroplex that freaked about Romo PLAYING GOLF in the offseason, does anyone really think JFF stories would be rare?

If we have to have a retread, go for Griffin, but you're still going to have tons of buzz every time he sneezes.

I'm good with Romo, Goff and Moore, thanks.

For those of you who don't get why some people in Dallas are uptight, I give you two words: Roy Tarpley.

As long as it doesn't affect your job performance, but in his case, well I will leave it there..

Troy may have known but he did not partake in it publicly. There is a big difference there. His job was not to stop what was going on. His job was to represent the Dallas Cowboys on the field and off. To be the face of the team and, as I said earlier, the NFL as a whole.

In two years, it's possible that Manziel could turn into a great Field General. It's also possible that he could continue to play his way out of the NFL. However, if you are wrong about him, there is no guarantee that we will have as good an opportunity as we do now to take a QB high. Then there is development time on a QB that will be needed in order to bring a young QB along. You are basically costing yourself a few years there. What you will see is a situation where we've lost another 4 or 5 years after Tony is gone, assuming we find a young QB at all and that's if the NFL doesn't make the decision on JF for us before that time.

I think it's a mistake for the Cowboys to bring him in but time will tell what eventually happens there.

ABQ, this is a pivotal draft for the Cowboys. Miss on a QB that high and you end up like the Lions (Ware & Harrington), when you could have picked a premium player at another position.
