If not him, then who is listed there right now? Who's the first name the front office brings up when asked about the running game?

If McFadden is anywhere in the conversation, a guy with better numbers and production in every category (Johnson) should be as well.

Yeah, I think "anywhere in the conversation" applies for sure.

I think, if healthy, CJ and DMC would both very easily get over 1000 yards with this team.
It's the "if healthy" part that worries me...especially with DMC.

Johnson has been incredibly durable, and the guy also has a really low career fumble rate (about 1 every 100 carries).
It's the high mileage that concerns me with him.

In the end, both Randle and Williams may be ok, with DMC as a wild card.

No way. Ever since he got that contract, he has steadily declined. He has a big bag of nothing right now.

He still puts up better numbers than McFadden has in years, when was the last season McFadden averaged 4.3 a carry?

I can't remember back that far

I agree that Johnson is not the same...as would be any back after 1900 carries.
But to say he's declined after his contract is kind of stating the obvious...I mean, pretty much every back in NFL history would have declined to some degree after rushing for 2000+ yards.

I'm not really pushing to get him at this point, but this guy has never had a QB and has run against stacked boxes his entire career. He's had a great run, actually. But that run is probably over or close to it.

I can't believe some of you guys are actually trying to pimp McFadden in this thread.

Not going to bump the thread since its against the rules, but a couple months back when McFadden was mentioned as a replacement for Murray, 99% of the posters laughed at the idea.

Some of those same posters are saying McFadden will do just fine now

Too funny

I don't see where it looks like he is anywhere near as 'over or close to it' as the guy we're currently counting on in McFadden.

Even in by far Johnson's worst season, he still outperformed McFadden by a huge margin in yards per carry. Based on that, if Johnson is nearing any end, McFadden is well past it.

I was tempted to do the same thing. I railed against the McFadden signing based on the thinking that the team might actually be counting on him to replace Murray as the lead back and what a mistake that would be.

I was assured at that time that there was 'no way' that would be the case.

And yet free agency and the draft have now passed and guess what we're currently looking at?

You won't hear me arguing with you on that.
I just don't know one way or the other....looking forward to finding out.

As for CJ, I'm sure he would have taken several to the house last year that Murray didn't. Better speed and vision...even at this age.
But they really liked Murray's dirty yards and TDs. Pretty sure, at this stage, CJ couldn't give us that.
Pretty sure DMC can't either. But you're more convinced than I am.

Johnson is a clear upgrade over McFadden and without the injury history. And he still has speed. Why not?

Biggest determining factor, right here.

Look, I'm not completely against RBBC, but you HAVE to get talent in here. We are far too complacent with what we have right now.

I can't believe some of you guys are actually trying to pimp McFadden as the only back and ignore the committee angle.

I am fine with giving McFadden 10 carries a game. I like him even better as a third down option.

Nobody is going to 'replace' Murray with one person and people should stop trying. IF Barber and Jones can work then I think some combination of the 4 prospects has a chance.

And while it may mean nothing to you, the faith the coaches, executives, as well as Travis Frederick and the OL have demonstrated in our runners is meaningful to me.

I would tend to agree with you. I'm not sure either Johnson or McFadden would be much good for 'dirty yards'.

Maybe Randle or Ryan Williams could fill that role?

Maybe for the guys they have experience playing with, sure. But when he starts trying to talk up McFadden, he loses me.
