Yet we still have a general false assumption (many fans/posters) that the position will take care of itself with the assistance of a pass rush. You need players with some talent. Wilcox is the only "talent" worth grooming @ the moment. The recent seasons prior to 2013 (where the pass rush was more than adequate) still resulted in long completions and confusion in the secondary. We are forgetting this way too often with the recent draft talk and disregarding S as an adequate 1st round selection. I will admit that edge rushers take priority, but if they are gone, Pryor would be a great selection for this team.

We're coming up on Barrys second year as a starter too and with the system so I think he get's a little more comfortable. The decision to wait on Matt Johnson and not go after a safety is starting to look bad for Garrett. His job is probably gonna depend on weather or not Wilcox or Johnson and Church can defend the middle of the field this year.

Might just be perception, but it seems the positions this team has actually focused on are WR, CB and TE in recent years. The last few years, we've at least seen a movement towards bolstering the offensive line - even if it was years too late.

This is awesome! The guy has not mastered basic game management 101 skills to a pop warner level yet but the problem is he doesn't have ENOUGH control. Unreal. Lol

Unreal when former players who know what they're talking about don't agree with your take? That is crazy.

I can disagree with him. They didn't focus on him in the first round either.

I don't think you have to spend a 1st rounder on a Safety for it to be considered focusing on the position. I was talking more about the team's general approach that they can put anyone back there and expect competence. Our Safeties of late have been UDFA's, a small-school 3rd rounder with 1 year at the position, a small-school 4th rounder with a history of injuries, and a tiny-school 4th rounder who the team tried at 3 positions before giving up on him. We've also signed two JAG veterans who weren't even starters for their previous team and neither of them lasted a season here. The team clearly does not emphasize the position enough, or evaluate players correctly, and it has led to some of the worst pass defenses in franchise history.

I recognize that D Line is where this team needs to make the most gains but at the same time, we can't keep putting below average Safeties back there and wonder why we achieve below average results.

Garrett is the HC of the team
He either has had control and is an incompetent bumbler or has had little to no control and is a spineless yes man
Take your pick

There is a popular motto in football coaching that applies here.

"You are either coaching it or allowing it to happen."

That could be applied to Garrett as a Head Coach or Jerry as the "decision maker". He either wants this environment or he allows it to happen.

I agree with Darren about the safeties, but unfortunately, I see Garrett's thumb print all over this team, and it a huge part of the problem.

I don't agree that Garrett's been a huge part of the problem. He's had some game management issues, but he has put his thumbprint on the team. They're more disciplined, which manifests itself in less penalties and have a never give up attitude. His problem is that he has to deal with Jerry meddling in everything which hinders his influence.

i would like to agree with that, but some players did have that "give up " attitude, if you want to credit him with changing the locker room, i agree, if you want to give him credit for draft changes, ok im still there, but game day decisions, handlings coaches, using our strengths, im not giving him that,

Good take. I do put some of the blame on the organizational atmosphere created by Jerry. There is no chain of command. Jerry controls all.

Romo has full control, and that isn't good. Only the cowboys would trust scatter brain tony romo with so much power. He's not responsible enough to have that type power. It's the reason I'm thinking about rooting against the cowboys all season.

Weak sauce. Have the courage of your own convictions, NJ22, and just stay within the guidelines. Or don't. But don't pretend I'd 'ban' you for a legitimate opinion.
