Yes ANY offer.

So in essence they would have to give us their 2nd round pick.....AND pay his salary on a new contract correct?

Wait a sec.... I thought that since we placed the 2nd round tender on him that we would have to give up our rights to him if a team gave us their 2nd round pick?

We could match any offer?

We can match any offer unless it has a poison pill we literally can't match... Like he gets a bazillion dollar bonus if he plays five games in Texas. That's how the Vikes got Steve Hutchinson from Seattle a few years ago. But there's supposedly been a gentleman's agreement among the owners not to do that anymore.

So we should be able to match anything they offer him. They probably wouldn't offer anything we wouldn't be comfortable paying anyway. He's still a young guy who hasn't proved much, so they won't offer him a mint.

this from cowboysblog..

April 7th, 2009 by Joe Rodriguez
With the period to sign restricted free agents quickly approaching (April 17th), it sounds like the Jets could be making a play to sign WR Miles Austin. Austin has yet to sign his tender, and would probably like to start for a team somewhere in the league. The Jets could be the team. According to the DMN, the Jets have scheduled a private workout to take a closer look at Austin. If the Jets were to offer Austing a contract, the Cowboys could match the deal and keep Austin, or the Cowboys could let Austing walk, and we would get the Jets 2nd round pick this year #52 pick.

According to sources, the Jets have scheduled to meet with Austin, a restricted free agent, Thursday and Friday.

The Cowboys gave Austin a $1.545 million tender offer that would require a team to give up a second-round pick as compensation if the Cowboys did not match. The restricted free-agent signing period ends on April 17. Four restricted free agents have signed offer sheets this off-season, but their teams matched the offers.

If the Jets sign Austin, the Cowboys would have a week to match the offer. New York’s second-round selection is No. 52, one spot behind the Cowboys’ first pick of the draft. (DMN)

This could get very interesting here in the coming days really quick. If the Jets make the play, do the Dolphins enter the sweepstakes being that they are in the same division, and have a history with Austin. To me, Austin would be THE GUY lining up across from Roy Williams, and he gives us the deep threat. What will Jerry do, if the Jets make the play? This could be a huge gamble letting Austin leave for a 2nd round pick. There’s no way you can feel comfortable going into the season with Williams, Crayton, and Hurd….no way. To me, this would mean package picks to get a quality receiver; Hicks or alike come to mind. We know the Cowboys were at N.Carolina’s proday in full force, so we’ll see. Some have even touted Hicks as another Irvin or Boldin type receiver. We’ll see, stay tuned guys, it could get interesting real quick!

I would take the pick. We have Roy Williams, Jason Witten, Sam Hurd, Felix Jones, Martellus Bennett as targets for Romo. Give me the pick and lets build this oline and change to a power running scheme or move up and draft and get a guy with a better skill set that we won't have to train for 3 years. Britt, Nicks or Robiske. I'll take the pick.

Austin is better than Nicks,Britt and Robiskie..if anything it's a wash.

It's treading water for the 52nd pick..

Austin is likely better than anyone we're getting at that pick.

Bad idea.

If we don't have Austin we lose a guy who stretches the defense.

Teams will load up on us.

Anything less is unacceptable and not worth it. You can keep your 52nd pick..I'll keep Austin.
ROFL @ this dude having 18 career receptions and you thinking he's even worth a 1st rounder, much less a top 15.

Most wide receivers drafted in the 1st round have 0 career NFL receptions. At least two teams think he's worth a mid-round 2nd. A first isn't out of the question.

Give us the 17th overall pick if you want Austin that bad!..We're matching anything you throw at him, so good luck!!

52nd pick?! Ha please..that's weak, no thanks.

Jerry you better not do this.

well that gives us 51 and 52. So if there is a decent recxiever open at either time we could take them. or move in the first and Draft one.

Yup, barring a trade up, the 5th through 8th ranked receivers on my board are Hakeem Nicks (who is reported to be sliding on some teams' boards), Kenny Britt, Brian Robiskie or Juaquin Iglesias... one or more of them are certain to still be on the board in the 51-52 ranged, and any of them would ease the sting of losing Austin, IMO...

That said, the "wow" receiver for Jerry to pursue if he does want to think about trading up would be Jeremy Maclin... I was puzzled when I'd read the Boys had shown some interest in him, knowing he's likely to be a top 10-top 15 pick... but maybe he's attainable after all, if the Jets make a move on Austin... it would take more than their picks at 51 and 52, but not a whole lot more...

But I dream... I'd be almost as happy if Nicks fell into their laps at 51 or 52... heck, I'm even intrigued by Iglesias' pro potential...

And of course, Jerry could always choose to match any offer the Jets might make...

I disagree. Nicks as well as Britt are future #1 guys. Austin has #2 written all over him. Robiske is a better route runner right now and has better hands.

Unless it's insane money, we have to match. I mean, the wideout situation is shaky even with Austin.

I like Miles Austin but I'd take the pick. Austin has potential but he is unproven and has had some injury concerns.

Again, if Austin is here I will root for him like crazy but I just don't think he's sure thing and/or worth a 2nd round pick.

One thing Jerry could do is take that extra pick and trade it for an established receiver. But who?

How? Miles means more to this team than pick 52.

Give me a top 15 pick and now we're talking.

We'd be lucky to get a second for Miles Austin.
