He's yet to prove anything but he has shown that if given the opportunity he can make plays.

He pretty much won the #2 job in preseason/camp last year and most likely would've opened up the season last year as the #2 had he not got hurt.

He is to good of a prospect just to give up for a 2nd round question mark.
I see your point Catch I like the guy but his value right now is probably as high as it is gonna get. I yet to see Miles dominate any game. I have seen flashes but I've have also seen drops and bad route running. We could possibly parlay those picks into a more polished guy and don't forget before Hurd was hurt early on he looked good also.

We have enough weapons. There only one ball.

1. You're not slick, so quit trying to be.

2. Says who? Because two out of 31 teams are thinking taking a risk of a mid 2nd rounder, they're gonna lose their minds even more for somebody who's done absolutely nothing??

By your weak logic, Sam Hurd who has 6 more receptions in 3 fewer games, can get us a phone call from Detroit.
Maybe you missed it, but the Jets ARE calling in regards to Austin. They're not going to bring him in if they don't already think he's worth a 2nd round pick.

BUt what's the point? You replace one question mark with another? Plus Austin had the attitude we all want from our recievers..this guy could be great, just like Nicks,Robiskie or Britt..I'd rather just stick with a guy who's been with us 3 years and has a great team attitude.

No, I said we could trade the Jets' pick for an established NFL vet. That said, I don't want to lose Austin, either.

I think we should stray from trying to trade for anymore vets

that is so true....I'm sorry

Jets Here:

Slate you are totally right, what were we thinking, trying to give you guys a second round pick for Austin, that would've been a steal. In fact, please don't call the police on us for attempted robbery..

you know what, we'll give you our 17th overall pick in this months draft for Austin, how bout that?? fair? you can maybe get Maclin or someone with potential....we'd much rather have Austin with his proven track record.

Much Apologies,
Jets

That's cute..do you think your funny? cause your an..how about you go back to NOT posting..

Maybe you missed it, a mid 2nd rounder for Austin is a stretch that only two teams are tugging. A 1st rounder is downright idiotic.

I still don't get why we didn't just tender him at a first-round rate.

Obviously, getting a 2nd round pick for a completely unproven guy (albeit with nice potential) isn't a bad tradeoff. But Jerry has publicly hitched his wagon to Austin, and I don't think it's realistic to think we could get equal short-term value for the plan we have in place for Austin.

He's a guy who has been working with Romo for, what, going on four years now? No way a 2nd-round rookie can replace that.

Again, I didn't understand it then and still don't. If we valued Austin so much, why not up the offer by an extra half-million or whatever it would have amounted to?

Who do you have in mind?? Because I've heard rumbling that the Giants offered a 2nd and 5th for Braylon..

I think maybe it was intentional on Jerry's part. If Jerry really thinks so highly of him, why not give him the first round tender to begin with?? IMO he gave him a second round tender hoping to see if there was any interest from teams, giving him a first round tender would surely scare everyone off.

I personally dont understand all this love for Austin? I mean the guy has like 18 catches in three years..... not spectacular numbers in my book....I say take the pick.....

Tony Romo had 0 passes in three years. People didn't understand the love for him at the time, but it was readily apparent that he had crazy talent.

If you don't see the potential in Austin, I don't know what to tell you.

Wow....Thursday and Friday?

I may be wrong about this but i dont think that teams Usually schedule a 2 day visit unless they have pretty much already decided to bring him in.

If they do give us a 2nd round pick for him then I think it would be safe to say that we would either sign torry holt or draft someone like Nicks or Macklin.

I would be sad to see Austin go personally.....I think he is going to be a solid reciever in the league for many years to come.

We could use that 2nd rounder, a 5th, Crayton and probably get Braylon Edwards since the Giants had the same picks but didn't want to add Steve Smith. The Browns apparently were ready to go but the Giants didn't want to give up Smith.

Just in case we lose Austin there is Torry Holt or Braylon Edwards as very possible options. One we just have to sign and the other we'd have to trade for but would have the ammunition. Even if we want to match a teams offer for Austin this is good news someone is serious about courting him. He's become valuable to us and worth good picks. We also know more about him than anyone else.

Beats me. But Roy, Hurd, and Crayton aren't going to make many opposing coordinators lose sleep. Tony has his hands full developing chemistry with Roy, let alone another mystery receiver, be it rookie or vet.

DMN: Jets Courting Miles Austin

Jets are courting Dallas Cowboys' Miles Austin
09:04 PM CDT on Tuesday, April 7, 2009

By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News
tarcher@***BANNED-URL*** / The Dallas Morning News

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones praised Austin two weeks ago at the NFL owners meetings, saying he would not have released Terrell Owens if he did not have Austin, an undrafted free agent in 2006.

This part of the story lept off the screen for me. If Jerry wanted to keep Miles on the squad, would he really go around singing his praises at the Owner's meeting, knowing that the RFA period has not ended yet?

Jerry does a lot of strange things, but something tells me that he's got something up his sleeve here. In the past, we've heard Jerry hype up prospects toward the end of pre-season to try to hang players out as trade bait.

Well, we'll certainly know by 4/17. If the Cowboys do not make any attempt to match, we'll know our boy Jerry was fixin' to set up a swappin' all along ...

That's an obvious argument..you should maybe open your eyes and think about what this guy can actually become instead of what he is right now.

I would consider letting the Jets take him if the Jets agreed to trade us their first round pick, the 17th pick for Austin and our second round pick, the 51st pick.

The 17th pick is worth 950 the 51st is worth 390. The difference equals 560 points which is about what the last pick in the first round is worth.

But, thinking logically, I doubt the Jets would be willing to give up more than their 2nd round pick for Austin. I think some people are showing a bit too much love because he is one of our guys. If the situation was the same but he was on the Commanders we would be making loads of fun of them for pimping some unknown like him.

VERY surprised more teams haven't been courting him, especially the team that plays where I live.

The Dullphins should have been ALL over him weeks ago.

I dont understand why on earth they signed him to the 1.5 million tender in the first place. I thought the 1st and 3rd round tender was like 2.3 million. Who wouldnt pay 2.3 million to a guy you are counting on playing a pivotal role in your offense? Another questionable move in my opinion and it might just bite JJ in the butt.
