DMN JJT Blog: Who do you like in a Dallas Cowboys track meet?

You guys are forgetting that the wide receivers would have Lowber who is as fast as Chuck Norris.

:laugh2:

You say this but doesn't DeAngelo Hall supposedly have world class sprinter speed? Didn't Owens blow past him repeatedly?

Yes, Deangelo will be the first to tell you he has world class sprinter speed.

He'll also tell you he can walk on water. :laugh2:

methinks neither of you read the thread all the way thru, huh?

Afterwards I did. Do you read the whole thing and then go back and post or do you reply as you go along. I'm curious because some of these posts get pretty long and my memory isn't good enough :D

Newman will own Owens in the Individual 100 m

this kinda shows a lack of concentration on the teams part. I mean they are already making post -season plans...they should be hitting their play books...i swear if they do this during their off week during the season i'll go balistic

;)

No, I think you're wrong. Newman could take him in 60 meters, maybe. But once Owens gets that long stride working, he'll overtake Newman. Kind of like Carl Lewis used to be, slower out of the blocks, but from 60 to 100 meters, he just outran everyone. I think Newman could probably do a 10.3 at this point of his career, I think Owens can still run a 10.2 or slightly faster.

Believe it or not, I do. :)

If it's a big thread, meaning more than 40 posts (since that's how I have it sorted), I click the mult-quote button on the post just in case I see more than one post I want to respond to.

For the curious, this is the multi-quote button .

Which is why your one of the moderators. :D Thanks WG. I've been edumacated. It's always a pleasure talking to you.

Um... Absolutely not. Not even close.

And I LOL at people talking about TO running 10.1s and 10.2s. Sorry, but not without a hurricane behind him. And probably not even then.

I'd take the DB's. Barely. Those WR's can run fast while the DBs are quick.

Regardless..it was a great article! Thanks for posting.

So you laugh at the prospect that Owens can run a 10.2 but are okay with the fact that Newman ran a 10.2 in college?

Well, then you think Newman would beat Owens over 100 meters. You obviously have a man crush on Newman, per your sig picture. Good for you. I disagree. And despite the fact that you "LOL" at people who suggest that Owens can beat Newman over 100 meters, you really don't know either.

Owens running a 10.2 would still put him well behind any of the finalists in the 100 meters at the Olympics and more than a half second behind Usain Bolt.

At least you got this part right. T.O. would be thoroughly embarrassed in the Olympics 100m... As would Newman.

And the man crush accusation is really weak. I guess you have a man crush on TO because you think he's faster?

But even if I (or you) did have one, it wouldn't affect one bit the documented authentic times that Newman has run, and that T.O. never has.

It's not a knock on T.O. -- he's obviously very fast on a football field. But people like you underestimate how hard a 10.1 or even 10.20 is to run. Especially at 34.5 years old.

No, I'm fully aware of how hard it is to run. I'm also fully aware that guys like Darrell Green and Willie Gault have run well under 10.2, as have a few other track/NFL players. It's people like you who underestimate how fast Owens can really run simply because he's a football guy and doesn't have an official track time. Maybe you should LOL at yourself for your smug and ignorant stance. I never claimed that Owens would not finish last at the Olympics, and a 10.2 time doesn't suggest that he would.

And you truly have no idea. Newman has run a 10.2. To suggest that Owens might be able to run a similar time doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility to me, but go ahead and continue to laugh. I'm laughing right back at you.

What do Darrell Green and Willie Gault have to do with it? They were both much faster than TO.

And if you read back, I didn't LOL at the idea that Owens would beat Newman. I doubt that would happen, but it's not impossible. What I LOL at is that T.O. could run 10.2 or under at almost age 35. Adam posted the short list of NFL players who have *ever* done that, and I don't think TO is in that group, especially at his current age.

And for the record, I seriously doubt Newman could equal his best time ever at close to age 30, either. People do slow as they age, even if they age well and are able to keep most of their speed.

But you're right, I think I will laugh at my smug and ignorant stance. :LOL

There.

My Dallas Cowboys 4 x 100 relay team will blow away the field

You guys seemed to really enjoy yesterday's debate about whether the Cowboys receivers or defensive backs would have the fastest 4 x 100 team.

I decided we should take it a step further.

You can pick a quartet of receivers or a quartet of defensive backs or a quartet of running backs, but let's put together a 4 x 100 dream team using only Cowboys' players.

I'll take receivers Alexander Wright, Terry Glenn, Joey Galloway and Bob Hayes and blow away any team you put together.

Any doubters?

Yes, guys slow as they age, but there might be exceptions. And again, it might not be that someone has slowed, but by how much? I don't know that Darrell Green's speed declined to the point, where at 34 or 35, he couldn't still run a 10.2, considering he ran a sub 10.1 at one point in his life.

As far as LOL at the idea that Owens could beat Newman, this is why I pointed out that your boy ran a 10.2 at one point in his life. Newman is not exactly old. Has his speed declined that appreciably? And as you said, it's not impossible that Owens might be able to beat him. Therefore, if Newman has slowed to a 10.25 and Owens can beat him, he might be darn close to a 10.2.

But the real point is, when you laugh out loud, it's not because of the ignorance of others, it's because of your bias against Owens never being a track guy and the fact that he doesn't have a posted 100 time. Or are you suggesting that it is impossible to believe that there might just be a few guys out there with the physical talent of a track guy, but who never ran track?

I don't know who is faster than who or by how much. But I do know this: TNew ran down Randy Moss from behind after Moss was in the clear, something I've never seen anyone else do.

I think it's highly improbable that TO could outrun Newman, be it 40 yards or 100 meters.

Afterwards, it was confirmed that Moss was injured. That was not the real Randy Moss you saw get run down by Newman, know that.

Also know that in last year's game, Moss was going long for a bomb with Newman following. And while Newman did a good job of keeping up with Moss, he looked like he was putting in a heck of a lot more effort than Moss. But's just my opinion. Maybe that's just the way Newman needs to run to get up to that speed.
